The purportedly overzealous book author who threw his book at President Obama at a recent appearance in Pennsylvania has got to be a total idiot, and I'm actually surprised that charges aren't getting pressed. That's as dumb as being in an airport and making a joke that you're carrying a bomb.

I was at first surprised that the news story I read on it wasn't giving the guy's name, and then it dawned on me: they don't want to reward this clown any further by helping him advertise his book. Smart move.

I am writing a book, the one based on my dissertation, and I have ideas for loads of other books in mind. Believe me, I'll have more brains than to market my books like that.

Iraqis throw shoes, Americans throw books, maybe the item of choice is a cultural thing...

I agree, he is a publicity seeking fool who shouldn't be rewarded.

Too bad the guy who threw his shoes at then President Bush became a hero.

This jerk went after a tough Dem, not a killer puppet Repub... All the difference...

Definitely --- Not surprised *you would refrain from a cheap publicity stunt of this sort.

No kudos to this jackass who let a book lob at a President who isn't going to torture him after allowing him "disappear" for 9 months.... 🙄
Glad they're not releasing his name ---- If they do, I'd make a point of NOT buying his book.

I usually agree with Milagros but here I have to say, that shoe-thrower -- Muntadhar al-Zeidi -- really is a hero;
he was protesting the Bush-Rove-Cheney Invasion for Profit --
"This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq,"

Worse, at least hundreds of Iraqis are still detained, no basic rights, no contact,
and it seems many are still tortured.
That fellow knew he was risking much more than his life, with a relatively harmless gesture, even if that wasn't a bunny slipper.

I agree with mils. The office of the presidency should be respected no matter who is in office. Thats what needs to happen to ensure democracy.

Wow........just wow....its ok to toss stuff at a President you dont like but not at a "tough Dem"...this is one of the most shallow ridiculous posts you have ever made here and the last one I will subject my eyes to...

Sometimes the office of the President needs to be disrespected in order to ensure democracy.

The President is a human being, and he is NOT above the law. Throwing a shoe was disrespectful and not very helpful - but Bush is obviously not going to go to jail for lying to the world. So maybe throwing shoes is all we've got.

Clinton showed enough disrespect for the office of the President by committing adultery in the oval office but no one tossed anything at him...rofl..double standards all way round..:waterballoon:

I disagree completely. Its not putting anyone above the law by showing the office resepct. There is nothing wrong writing a letter or having peaceful protests if you disagree that strongly with the person in office. However doing anything physical like throwing obects at the president is something that degrades the office itself. That is not tolerable no matter who it is occupying the presidency.

We are a country of many different people and cultrues and as such we need to have open minds and tolerance of differing view points. Our democracy works because of that tolerance and if it is lost then its only a matter of time before it our system falls apart..

lol yeah because an unprovoked war that causes hundreds of thousands of deaths is totally comparable to adultery.

I think Babbles point is that one guy was doing it for popularity and the other was doing it as a sign of protest. Its true basic respect should be shown to the highest member of a democracy, but Muntadhar al-Zaidi wasn't a citizen of the democracy. He was a citizen of the country the democracy bombed to the ground.

We are talkin about respect for the office....not decisions...If the president is a moral retard he shouldnt be the president...

As for unprovoked war, I am glad you were privy to all the goings on behind the capital doors...must be cool to be privileged to have inside info ....

or is that just something you read...

People that are part of the system should respect its hierarchy. People who's country's have been raped by it aren't expected to be as cordial.

If the the government won't disclose a valid reason for starting a war it's a safe bet they don't have one.

Cause reading is for dorks right?

Apples and oranges people. Apples and oranges.

The person who threw the shoe (he was lucky it was just a shoe, but that is a sign of disrespect in that part of the world) did it in his native country for something HE (the thrower) thought was well deserved for and wanted to demonstrate it, and the President was in HIS country.

This person that threw the book at Obama was throwing it for HIM (OBAMA) TO READ!! He was not attacking, nor trying to make a statement. He wanted the President to READ THE BOOK HE WROTE.

Sheesh. People will turn anything into a partisan fight nowadays.

I mean come on.

However, just as I think that Iraqi had the right to throw the shoe at Bush, if Obama visits Pakistan..I will defend the right of someone to throw a shoe or something similar there since Obama has ordered numerous drone attacks into Pakistan that have killed many civilians...and a lot of children. Something none of you can hang on Ol'Bushie.

No..but believing everything you read is silly...

Safe bet....nah..classified info that comes out 40 years or so after the fact usually sheds light for historians...there is no safe bet there...

As for cordial...no they are not expected to be....but it doesnt win them any points...not to be....

No..but believing everything you read is silly...

As silly as it is impossible, considering different things contradict eachother. Also silly is seeing someone who disagrees with you and saying "he must have just read that somewhere and instantly believed it, derp derp!"

Safe bet....nah..classified info that comes out 40 years or so after the fact usually sheds light for historians...there is no safe bet there...

So they should get off the hook because decades from now they may release information that vindicates themselves?

Fuck it, this argument is officially no longer worth it.

Yes, but he wasn't IN our country. He was in the country he lied about in order to invade. A country for whom the blood of hundreds of thousands of its citizens was on his hands.

If slaughtering people in the name of your misguided ambition doesn't degrade the office of the Presidency, throwing a shoe or two certainly can't hurt it.

Respect must be earned by any person who holds office. If they betray our trust, they are not worthy of that respect. Respecting an office because of its position is the mark of a kingdom; it is everything we fought a revolution to avoid. We respect people, not the trappings of office.

And only those who have earned it.

Maybe..but then we just walked out peacefully on this guy....

ahmadinejad1.jpg

and he deserves more than a shoe tossed at him....

but we respect the fact that he is the leader of Iran and realize that it is a positon that must be respected no matter what kind of twatwaffle holds it...

he certainly has not earned respect from anyone...

I'm no fan of Obama, but I hope the Secret Service beat the ever-loving crap out of the book-tossing asshole.

Clinton screwed Monica-that's between him and Hilary.

Bush screwed both Americans and Iraqi-that involves all of us at some level or another.

I really don't see the similarities.........

And no, I wouldn't call the shoe-thrower a hero either; but it could've been a lot worse had he thrown something other than a shoe.

Clinton defaced the oval office doing it. That is a total lack of respect for his title and the American people. That makes it the business of those who "hired" him. Get caught screwing someone at work and see where it gets ya.

No matter what you say, it's not the same; you're doing the apples to hand grenades comparison here.

And no, it wasn't news and it wasn't our business. With an over 50% divorce rate, maybe Americans should be minding the business of their own marriages.

And for the record....I don't like or support what Clinton did at all. If someone decides to get married, they should play by the vows they sputtered in front of the preacher, judge, JOP, or whoever. But it's not even on the same street as the entire nation being duped into a war that never should've happened and is still happening now. You have to have arms like Plastic Man to make a reach like that.

This really has NOTHING to do with the OP anyway; don't see why you're riding this horse anywhoo..........:beathorse:

The OP is speaking of respect for the office of President of the US. I merely point out that clinton himself had none so what can we expect form others when our own politicians live in the gutter...More on topic than Bush is in this thread...:yayzorz::evileye:

The OP mentions nothing of the sort; it discusses how the guy who threw the book at Obama is an idiot. I couldn't agree more--he's lucky he didn't get himself shot. Another poster steered the dialogue that direction, not the OP.

Clinton is NOT the only president who screwed around, he was just the one who got caught. Personally I think he was set up, but he didn't have to take the bait so he's not off the hook by any means.

And if you think someone who started a war that's going on long after he's out of office who has the blood of thousands on his hands is remotely comparable to someone who got a blow job under the Oval Office desk then we have no other dialogue here.
