And now I remember why I don't go in the chatroom anymore.

Sometimes I find it a tad too too. 🙂 But then at other times I manage to force a few people into a conversation, or playful silliness.

Do yall still have mods in the chat? Because i have heard LOTS of people saying that its gotten bad.

If yall need a chat mod im open for the job.😀 lol just joking of course.

Never been to the chatroom, but...there's always the Humor Forum, which is a sort of 'short bus' equivalent to a chatroom(*SLURP* *SLURP*🙄 ).

I haven't been in it but twice since Paws and Mimi quit moderating. For one thing it's just not very entertaining nowadays. For another I ran across one crazy female who put me off big-time. Who needs the agravation?

the chatroom can be pretty bad at times, but other times if you catch it just right there are fun and friendly people in there.

I need to get back in there. I haven't been going all week. Not because of what goes on in there, but just because of work schedule and whatnot. There's a few bad apples that beg for attention and don't care if it's positive or negative, like some neglected puppy, but I try to ignore the bad stuff and just keep talking with my friends.

Jo, If you had an issue with the room, I'd be interested in a e-mail from you telling me why you were bugged and what exactly was wrong. Perhaps it's fixable.

I see the opinion of the room is not great. Since we are coming up on renewl for it, this is a good thing to know, as perhaps just letting it go, and saving the cash is the right answer if no one is having fun there anymore. No point in keeping stuff about that people don't like.

Myriads

Myr,
I appreciate your response, but i don/t' think it warrants an email.

It's not so much a specific problem as it is the scent in the air. It's stifling. I'm sure to others it's just dandy. I find no entertainment value in the chatroom where I once thought it was a fun environment. It's just me...and that's why I titled the post such rather than just blasting the chatroom in general.

I'd suggest a poll in both forums to get a consensus. Frankly, I'd be surprised if people thought it is really worth the cost.

Just my two cents,
Jo

Lately, people have complained a lot about the chatroom, but I only see a few bad apples in there, and it seems they tend to come on very late in the evenings, when they know they can get away with it.

I don't know how much THIS chatroom costs, but I think the TMF definitely needs A chatroom. I like this chatroom, but I can think of the occasional downside. A while back, something popped into my head that was a feature in the original chatroom that this one isn't capable of. I remember in the old one, if something was getting out of hand, a moderator could lock the entire room down so that they were the only ones who could enter messages. I thought this was a pretty good feature for regulating control, and could give people a chance to cool off and rethink their behavior. Of course, in the original chatroom, anyone was able to get in, which was the primary problem with the bad apples coming in whenever and as WHOever they wanted.

I guess in a worst-case scenario, we've always got the Yahoo chatroom, if it's determined that maintaining this chatroom is not economical. It'd also be a shame to lose trivia.

Just out of curiosity, how soon are we talking, as far as renewing/reevaluating the current chatroom?

I guess things just change. I rarely go to the chatroom anymore for the simple reason that it seems the average age keeps getting younger. I used to love going in there and spending an hour or so sharing some intelligent conversation and jovial banter, but I think the reason I stopped going is that there are currently few members of my age group who still frequent there (let's call it the over 25 group). Those of us who need to be carbon dated because we can't remember how old we are just don't seem to fit in as well there as we used to. lol.

After about the 20th, "NE laddys with tiklish fet wanna chat?", you kinda wanna crawl through the screen and shake somebody.

That's not to say that all members under 25 are incapable of intelligent conversation. Perhaps I'm just not going there at the right times.

I agree, that DOES get aggravating and agonizing to have to read that mind-numbing crap. However, I see quite a few people in there who are over 25, and I like how the majority of the members who frequent the room regularly can hold a conversation on just about anything, and it doesn't have to necessarily be about tickling.

Also, I may be coming way out of left-field with this one, but by NOT frequenting the chatroom regularly, I think we let the inmates control the asylum, in a sense. Just like being a typical crowd to an establishment, like a coffee shop or bar, the majority of the patrons will more or less determine the type of crowd that goes into that establishment.

You know what, I'm probably sounding like some self-righteous, aloof, country-club type. If I'm sounding like that, just ignore me. It's just some random thing that popped into my head.

What Myriads said does bother me. I would feel really badly if they let the chatroom go, because I feel it is a very important part of the association and comradery of TMF. As one of the only TMF'ers (besides Myriads) that posted here who still goes into the chatroom every night, this is how I see it, and I know I've made this point to Myriads:
It is my opinion that the chatroom has changed. I wouldnt call it "bad", it's just different. On some nights, it is the same lively, wonderful place it was when I joined TMF two years ago, while on others, it can be a bit silent and at times unpleasant. I know Myriads has made the public comment in the room that in any big group there is bond to be change, and many times the group just has to roll with the punches and go along with it. Baseball teams, marriages, and even people undergo change, as is such with life and society. Iam a historian, and change is part of life. My suggestion to the people who believe it has changed or are unhappy is to simply ignore or report any troublemakers as I do, and to let the mods sort it out as they always tell us. While I can understand staying away if people make things unpleasant, I have made it my motto that as long as I follow the rules of the chat, and dont get banned, no one, five, or ten troublemakers are going to keep me from being in a place I enjoy, to discuss a subject I enjoy, that of tickling. I have seen many friends leave or not come in as often as they used to, and while this makes me sad, I just try to make new friends, and talk to the old ones when I can. Such is life, especially in a large group of people.
Myriads, if I may make one other point. I feel in my heart that the same people who talk of the chat changing, and also talk of staying away because they feel it has changed or become "unpleasant" will feel very sad if you do decide not to renew the chat, and we no longer have a place to come and socialize. I know and admit it s changed, and yet Iam still here, as I refuse to allow a few bad apples to ruin my time on TMF. Anyone who doesnt come to the chat or leaves TMF due to a few jerks is letting the idiots win, which is exactly what they want and counterproductive to the room and forum itself. Stay, ignore the jerks, report them if it gets troublesome, and let's get back to the basics of why we all joined TMF, to have an online place to visit when we wish to discuss tickling and other topics. I'll get off my soapbox now, but I think getting back to basics is what it's all about. I'm interested to hear feedback to my points.
One other point: Despite a few jerks, there are still many wonderful people who are part of TMF, and the chat, and I try to focus on those people, and making friends with good, new people. I dont know if my motto or what I do will work for others, but perhaps getting back to the basics of why we all came here in the first place, will help us improve our enjoyment of TMF, and the chat.

Jo, thanks for the info.

Renewl is sometime in late summer I believe. Currently this has been the only room that offers the security level we need, and the feature set that is desired. (The last room was secure, but sucked featurewise, the 1st room was fantastic featurewise but sucked on security) One finds a balance.

My experience is that chat rooms are defined by the majority group that uses them, and they go through phases. Jo you want a good experience? Post a thread here saying you want to arrange a time for 'mature fiolks' to chat in the room, get a bunch of folks in there at the same time and enjoy 🙂 Conversation level seems better before and after Trivia also Which I'll be running this sunday) If folks want a room with more content come on in and supply it! 🙂

Myriads

I agree with Myriads post, and I hope I made some good points in mine as well. He is right about his main point, if people want a more mature room, we need to come in and supply the maturity, and ignore the jerks, which is what the ignore button is for. I also agree that the room seems best after Sunday trivia, as many people are in and the place is lively, but as he said, to make it better other times, the good people need to frequent it, and not let the few jerks take it over. Overall, I love this room feature wise, and it is fairly secure, and I just think that if the good people come on more often and ignore the few jerks, we can still make this site and the chat a great experience for all of us who do want to come in and have good give and take about tickling and other subjects. I further agree with what he said about the room, as life does, going through phases, and the good people still on here need to do our part to try and make the good phases outweigh the bad ones.

TummyDragon, how do you do that dadblasted carbon-dating again? My memory isn't what it used to be.

Type larger, too, consarnit, I can't see as well as I used to, either.

*clacks her false teeth irritably* I can't hear you, whippersnapper...

Ah well...good thing I can still drive.

Button 😛

Seriously, I love old people - I work with them & enjoy their company immensly - in fact I stole this joke from one! :bubble:

They do have free chats. Like the one that the TTF has. (I suggested it😀 ) Anyways I don't know what kind of features the new chat has, but the TTF's chat had the same amount of security as the chat I remember. (You have to have an account with the forum and a password to enter) Anyways hope I helped.

How to say this without sounding "not good?" 😛 hmmmm

I enjoyed the chat at one time, but I now find that going in there is a bit on the icky side of things when I see see grown men who want to talk tickling and are acting like puppies looking for a teat to suckle. 😀 Whew...that feels better. 😀

To be honest, I don't think an older group of people would make much difference. ((With the exception carbon-boy of course.)) I doubt the maturity level would really change much. Over the years, I've found it's a chat room phenomena, not a tickling thing.

Ah well...I'll try to develop a better opinion. I'm sure it has some benefit and I'm just unaware of it. I've not seen much reference to the chat in the forums where I spend my time, so I'm really no judge of what is considered a vital organ to the survival of this website. The community developed prior to the tmf chat...and I'm sure it will survive without it if that is the decision.

I'm not "chat room person" anymore I suppose.

J.

damn, JoBelle... there were teats there for suckling? And I missed it? Actually you have a point. When I bantered about the chatroom I wasn't very serious, and I guess in sometimes I seemed pretty immature.

I think flatfoot is maybe right when he said that "the majority of the patrons will more or less determine the type of crowd... " Maybe I'll try a few more times before Myriads dumps it. I usually get in there pretty late - I'll try to get in a little earlier, before the "lunatic fringe" wakes up.

LMAO Button. 😉

I'm personally afraid that JoBelle is right. Chatrooms are often used by people, who want to behave badly without the consequences that behavior would have in real life.

I have had good talk both in TMF chatroom and others, but often these good people stop coming because of the awful atmosphere some other people makes. Too bad, because basically I like meeting new friends on the Net.

Geez, every once in a while I have a bad time in the chat (I'm sorry to all of the people I explode on), but sometimes that happens, bad days. Most of the time, it is a lot of fun in there and I have met a lot of cool people on the forum in the room. We need the chatroom because where else would we talk to people about tickling at lightning fast speed? Its like the neighborhood hangout, where if you don't know where everyone went, you could check there and find people to talk to.

Just a few things... I never go to the chatroom myself, but don't assume that all the idiots that annoy you in the room are under 25. I'm sure you all run across idiots of all ages in the room. Age rarely has much to do with it, since idiots don't generally mature with age. Usually, they just get worse....

And seriously... this is the freaking internet. The medium itself was never designed with class in mind, so I find it strange that any of you expected a tickling chatroom to be "vanilla." Chances are likely that a lot of people entering the room are typing one-handed, if you know what I mean....
