Bad Reactions All Around

I agree that this whole thing should be taken into consideration. If this was just a one time thing or so, it'd not be such a big deal. But that it's something that has been going on consistently means that there is some issue somewhere. Even if there is no real solution, it's better to try and find something than let it just fester on imo.

A major source of these issues is that there are two extremes in regards of members, which I mentioned in another thread. People that are very sensitive about their own experiences on the forum and get upset whenever anything threatens that, no matter how trivial, and people on the opposite end, who will attack anyone who has any issue with an aspect of the forum relentlessly. Both sides....they aren't very good.

Like most or all things, I believe that there is more peace in balance. Nothing is perfect, but that doesn't mean it's always bad either.

At least it wasn't anything like the shitstorm that spawned after they had the logo and some section names changed to Annie Hall and Crystal Light and others like last year (or two years ago, not exactly sure). That kicked up some indignation like a mother.

I know many are aware, but I just want to reiterate that me and Crystal had no clue that was going to happen and were not involved. Never have been.

It's because those folks cannot help but paint with the broad strokes of the past, when they were able to effectively deal with people this way.

It doesn't work like that anymore. Their constant statement of this? Is the glaring showing of elitism. And it is undeniable. It's just muddied by enough folks who think they are in on this who have some solipsistic investment as to who they are here that they have to chime in whenever possible.

It's a bit ironic to hear you complain of elitism.

I want to thank everyone for responding this thread. I was hoping for an honest discussion about Shemp Day and maybe work out a solution that is beneficial to everyone. The idea of Shemp Day, as I understand, is a good. I like a good prank, a joke, but it seems exclusive when there's no explanation when confused people ask what's going on. Pretty much all is said it's a prank and that you should sit back and enjoy. If you don't, leave for the day then come back.

When people expressed confused and complained, many others dismissed them as if they have no sense of humor or simply they don't get it. Or better yet, they're told to get over it. All around everyone has a bad reaction, anger coming from both sides. Doesn't that make anyone think 'what can we do to improve this so it doesn't cause hard feelings all around'?

A lot of folks who feel like they are outsiders say that: "feel like I'm on the outside looking in". Can you explain that a little more?

The only irritation I have is being blamed for this whole shenanigan, along with another member. Even though I'm as "on the outside" of it as they are.

In a way, it seems we need drama like this, because it gives people a chance to vent and let loose pent up frustrations.

I don't know how to really explain it. It's a feeling I've felt many times throughout my life, not just here. It's a feeling of not belonging, of not feeling included. Like everyone's been invited to a party, but you were left out.

As for blame, it is unfortunate when some people are blamed for something they had no idea was going to happen. It would be nice to know for sure who the 'pranksters' are.

In the end, all I have to say to the complainers is this:

If you don't like the prank, then log out and come back 24 hours later. It will be over. Get over it.

Milagros, I like you. I enjoy posting with you, but that is completely dismissive. How someone feels about something shouldn't be dismissed as if doesn't matter.

In another thread I had seen a member claim Shemp Day was a way to include everyone. That they do this prank because they like everyone. Well when you like someone you don't just dismiss them if they complain. You'd want to get to the heart of the complaint and understand why they feel the way that they do, wouldn't you?

People who complained about Shemp Day were told they don't know how to have fun, have no sense of humor, it's not a big deal, and to just get over it. It only makes things worse when people act as if the complaints were a nuisance rather than an opportunity to explain Shemp Day, why it happens, and for the 'pranksters' to learn ways to improve Shemp Day so there would be less confusion and more people laughing at the joke.

Interesting points, but I guess the question becomes... what percentage of people are just overly sensitive? I mean, obviously, that's a subjective criteria to guage, but.... let's face it... We all know people in real life that make a big deal out of everything. They sometimes frequent forums too.

So, while figuring out what offends people is somewhat useful, there are other people who can only be helped "the hard way."

Some people, you can explain things to, and they grow to understand them and stop being offended. Other people... well, you basically have to offend until they grow a thicker skin.

Knowing the difference is clearly a judgment call, but I can definitely sympathize with milagros's feelings.

So now the pranksters are psychologists and their medicine is this prank to help those thin-skinned fuckers deal with their sensitivity? Are you fucking serious?

The TMF is the most popular adult website on the internet. The TMF, the name, and so on is a brand. People, who aren't even mods, altered that and tainted that and did not care about the backlash that would ensue. What I'm upset about is not the prank itself. Personally, I don't feel one way or another, but the Shemp thing was a personal joke thought up by a group of people hanging out together one weekend. They decided to push that joke on everyone and not everyone wanted to be a part of it. People who didn't know what the hell was going on, what Shempday was, and so on were affected. New members probably even more so. Like I said, this should be no one's personal playground and when people who are not even moderators can fuck up the forum like that as they please, just because they hold some kind of status in the community for being around since 1902, and then tell people to "get over it" instead of listening and coming to a compromise, that is fucked up.

Yes I understand that. There will always be people who are overly sensitive and stir up trouble for no other reason than because they can.

But I would think the 'pranksters' would have a general idea of who's complaining for the sake of complaining and who's complaining because they're truly upset.

For whatever it's worth, I hope for some compromise from both sides. Shemp Day can be fun if more people knew what was going on. Not necessarily the prank itself, but the idea of Shemp Day and what it's about. It could be TMF's version of April Fools Day. 😀

I don't care for the prank, one way or the other...buuuuuuut the reaction from some involved comes off as very douchy.

Humility tends to imply intelligence far more often than arrogance.

No, humility is a faux game played by egotists who want to play others around them into thinking they are worthy of praise.

I have nothing to be humble about. Now if you want this to continue on with this incessant little pot shotting, we can do the tango and I can handily rebuke you every single time (as has been done with everyone who has tried to cross me up), but rather than give you ammunition to derail this thread, I will laugh at your paltry mode of attack.

If that's the way you want to interpret my post, so be it.

I'm not suggesting my proposal is therapeutic, but you are taking my post rather seriously and to heart, which is puzzling to me, considering that's it's just a random post on the internet.

I don't claim to be a psychologist. I don't claim to know the inner workings of everyone's mind. I simply mentioned a pattern I've seen in my own experience.

Let me mention a few things here.

First, I'm only vaguely familiar with whatever this prank was. I remember some Shemp thing a few years ago, but that's about it.

Second, if the mods feel that these people crossed the line, they have their own judgment with which they can wield any punishments they deem necessary. So, if you feel that they should be punished, you would probably find it more worth your time to lash out at them than me.

So, yes, I and a few other people see this as people getting upset over what appears to be nothing. I'm sorry if our expression of this has also upsetted you.

I take it you must be really bored. I mean, don't get me wrong, I have some free time that I spend here too, but it appears that you really like to argue for the sake of arguing.

You love poking sticks at bears, don't you?

I don't want to derail this too much, but if you're as great as you seem to believe you are, why are you here?

By all means... you should be using this wondrous intelligence of yours to run a business, make lots of money, and live the life.

What does a God like me need with money and business?

Well, now that we established that meangry is kind of like a megolamaniacal version of maniac, have we learned anything in particular as to how to avoid offending anyone with future pranks?

I suppose dropping the Shemp thing might be the only surefire solution.

We?

I'm fairly certain you haven't really established anything. Rather than that, you tried (and failed) as yet another person to dig their heels into the ground, trying to jab and prod a bull because, in doing so, you could get some good points.

Reality? This is a boring ass tango between one person who is throwing junk, and someone who is not willing to go into full on transcendent text assault mode. Mostly because I understand what my next GR violation means.

All you're doing is showing yourself to be this little mosquito, buzzing around, acting tough because you finally have a chance to wear Pull-Ups.

And with that, I'm done. Until you actually have something of substance to say, do yourself a favor; keep my name out your mouth.

I enjoy a heated discussion as much as the next, but this is insanely off topic and we're lucky this thread hasn't been closed yet. 😛

No kidding... but at least he's halfway housetrained. Kudos to whoever accomplished that.
