i think maybe jeff lynne and company were slighted in the light of other group discussions (that's discussions about other groups, not discussions involving many people thus forming a group).

so is there anyone out there in Forum land who loves this band, and who has something interesting to share?

you can always count on steph!

jeffy left some years ago to produce other folks' recordings, and also dabble in solo material.

he did have that travelling wilbury thing going for a short time.

and he did co-present the posthumous R&R hall of fame induction to george harrison just last week.

right now i am listening to the "Time" album - that was his theme concept based on time travel. very melodic and it gets in your head.

I really enjoyed that small concert they gave on TV last year. A question though, whose the curvy blonde that sings with them now because Jeff Lynne can't hit high notes anymore?

I "discovered" ELO in the early 80's with their hit at the time, "Calling America", of particular note to me at the time as I was pining for the chick I was all in love with and junk at the time, who was stationed in Germany then and would someday become my ex-wife. ELO is great! One of my favorite obscure bands.

Geez, ELO was one of the first in my music collection...
... on 8-track. No lie. Played that rascal to death. Good thing it died first, too, 'cause by then, they weren't makin' 'em anymore!

Was always impressed with how long they lasted, given that they weren't the center of the pop or rock worlds, too.

Who's The Damn Blonde!!

Ok the special I was watching was on A and E maybe about 12 to 18 months ago. I watched it twice. It was a very informal and small session. Jeff Lynne stopped between songs and told a little story about each tune. The blonde was standing to his right wearing a long dress. She was very attractive and pretty much did nothing until there was a high note, then she'd sing it along with Jeff Lynne. You could tell he couldn't hit the high notes anymore. She'd sort of sing the note over him.

He was remarkably witty and it was a VERY good show.

I saw ELO at the Garden back in the summer of 1978, on the 'Out Of The Blue' tour. They performed with a spaceship on stage behind them, the colored lights going off with the beat of the music. Pre-MTV, we thought this was pretty cool. A fun show! The warm-up band was "Kingfish"...
