The title of this post pretty much sums it up. I'm curious, for those of you who are gamers, if you have a particular favorite that isn't exactly mainstream. I'll list just one to get the ball rolling, but feel free to chime in with as many as you like.

The one I'm going to mention is Suikoden. It debuted on the Playstation in the late 1990s and has since transitioned to the PS2 with a total of 5 installments (and one side game) overall. It's essentially Final Fantasy without all the incredible cinematics. At their heart, all Suikoden games are about war, but with a cartoonish twist. That, and collecting the 108 Stars of Destiny. That's 108 different characters who all contribute to your army in some way. I've loved this series since I discovered it.

So, there's mine for right now. I'll add a few more as this thread (hopefully) grows. I hope you have fun with this topic!

A littlegame called "Inner Space"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation:_Inner_Space

This little gem of a computer game is probably one of my all time favourite little known about games. It's simple but incredibly fun and addictive. You actually go into your real hard drive for this game. I highly recoment people downloading the free trial game. You'll find yourself addicted in no time.

Another great game is a game called "Gemfire" for the super nintendo. I loved this game as a kid and still play it on occasion with a rom and emulator. Deffinitly worth a checkout.

Snake, Rattle, and Roll for the Nes. Strange concept for a game. You were a bouncing snake head that ate balls shooting out of a box to make your tail grow. Jumping in the water made, as I recall, a foot or something attack? You needed to jump up platforms and levels to get to the finish.

Pocky and Rocky 2 for the Snes. A game where you, a shinto priestess named Pocky, journeyed through the lands picking up keys to open treasure chests to random goodies. You threw endless anti-evil spell papers at enemies while your companion did the same when they saw an enemy. (You could pick your partner, a fat man who could throw boulders, a racoon named Rocky who threw leaves, a ninja girl who threw ninja stars, or a scarecrow who threw glaves.

Vegas Stakes for the Snes. You pick a character to represent you starting out. The premise is you drive with a partner to Vegas with 1,000 bucks in your pocket and continuously play games to make more money. Options for games were slots, craps, blackjack, roulette, and poker. There was never a cap or a victory amount of money. People would also come to you with strange requests or trying to sell things, you could either make or lose money with them.

Super Mario 2 for the Snes. You started out being able to pick from Princess Toadstool, Mario, Luigi, or Toad. You simply progressed through worlds trying to beat the enemies, gather keys, unlock doors, grab cherries (for the slots game after you beat the level), etc. Your character of choice changed the abilities you could work with on each level. (Toadstool could float in the air for an extended period of time, Mario was normal, Toad was fast, and Luigi did higher, exaggerated jumps.)

Battletoads: Battlemaniacs for the Snes. You were a toad who was trying to rescue friends from the clutches of an evil broad. You simply walked through all the levels kicking ass. Levels did change though based on either floating on metal flyers, zipping through brain substances on a jet bike, etc.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for the Snes. One of my all time favorite games aside from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. You became Mario, a guy who is happy go lucky beating Bowser and saving Peach in Bowser's Castle until one day a giant sword crashes through and throws everyone out. At first Mario's quest is to find Peach. But he meets others who need his help along the way. In your rpg party, you end up with Mario, Peach, Bowser, Mallow, and Gino. Mario discovers that the bad guys have shattered 'Star Road' which makes wishes come true. If anyone can ever have wishes come true again he must restore it to it's former glory. GREAT game. I cannot emphasize how much everyone should try it.

Kingdoms: Total Annihilation for the PC. Great, cheesy computer game with an engaging story line. 4 siblings rule their respective lands and one day the father of all of them dies. The leader of the undead strikes a rebellion against his siblings and they all begin to separate and fight. You play as each of them randomly, accomplishing the mission goals given while the storyline progresses.

Nox for the PC. Probably one of the better RPG's I've ever played Pc or not. You start out as Jack, a loser who lives in a trailer park with his girlfriend. He has an orb on the top of his tv he mistakenly believes is something to help with reception. However, it actually is something more powerful. The villainess activates it, sending Jack into another dimension where he must fight his way through hordes of monsters and others to beat the woman who did that to him in order to get back home. You can pick to be a conjurer summoning animals to aid you, a wizard using mostly spells, or a warrior with great strength and little ability to learn magic. The fun key parts of the game are there are many hidden areas, you can move most things around, not much in the game is taboo to do, and it's LOADS of fun. It's a less involved version of Oblivion almost.

Maniac Mansion! I don't know if anyone remembers it, but it was originally for PC then came out for Nintendo back in the late 80's early 90's. You could choose 2 or 3 characters (I think) from out of about 7 and you got to go into this mansion where you could explore virtually everything. It had witty responses for just about every action you attempted. It just seemed ahead of its time.

Two of my favs were computer games that ran on DOS...wow that was awhile ago.

The first one one was 7th Guest and the sequel was 11th Hour

S.O.S for the Super Nintendo. You have 60 minutes to get off a cruise ship that rolled over and is sinking.

I LOVED that game!

I think it's called Tombola. Some pink haired dude was the main character. I thought it was kind of fun.

i shall let the video speak for me!

what platform?

My fav stand-up arcade game:
Time Pilot

Man, did any of you guys play that one 90's game where you played as the 7-up spot? It was such a cheesy and pointless game but I loved for some reason!

Look at him. He simply screams hero material.

*raises hand*

As a kid, I actually rented the game from Blockbuster, as lame as that sounds. I enjoyed it, too! The Spot was just a cool little dude.

Oh, and Cloudgazer brought up Altered Beast. Loved that game! That YouTube video brought back some memories. Sega was going to release a game called Project Altered Beast 3 years ago, but it never saw North American release.

Dude, Maniac Mansion was one of the all time great Nintendo games. It was 2 characters (they made you use that one guy because it was his girlfriend that somehow got kidnapped by a meteor), and depending on who you chose, you had to play the game entirely differently. The black photographer was the easiest to beat the game with, I think.

Right now, a game for Xbox called 4x4 EVO 2. It's a off-road truck racing game. I race Dodge trucks.

Back in the day, Treasure of Tarmin on Intellivision. It was part of the Dungeons and Dragons franchise.

Ok, how old school can I go with this.

'Magic Muschrooms' A platform game played on one screen where you had to jump around collecting, er, magic mushrooms. I really want someone else to remember this so I can be sure I'm not making it up. It was on some kind of ancient PC (BBC?) and was made by microprose I think.

And of course, the original Elite game. Pesky thargoids ambushing me in hyperspace.

The arcade version of the moonwalker game was awesome. Killing your enemies by throwing your hat and powering up in to the giant robot and firing lasers at people.

Classic

I just thought of another one. This is a great thread! Goonies 2 for NES. I feel old remembering these things. This makes me really appreciate my XBOX 360!

It was like Zelda but better.
