Yes folks, it's true. Miss "Most Celebs Strike Me As A-holes" is a Tyra fan. I like her goofiness (she reminds me a lot of me!) I like her no-BS style and the way she wears her heart on her sleeve (again, me!) But I really like the way she feels about her "Mama," as she calls her, like she's the most amazing person in the world, something I can totally relate to.

I'm not much into celebrities... I mean, lots of actresses and models are beautiful, but no more so than many of the women I see out in public on a daily basis.

Salma Hayek is the exception. I mean, DAMN. It isn't just the way she looks, either. Her accent, mannerisms, and attitude are all just as sexy as her appearance. 😀 😀 😀

I've always felt it a little too grandiose when anybody is labeled "sexiest woman alive." Sexiness is probably at least 70% personal preference. Every woman in this recent influx of "sexiest woman" threads looks way hot to me. And Tyra certainly not the least...

Tyra IS DEFINITELY HOT!! So is TAMIA78.

I also think that every race has their set of ugly people. I guess that is why the phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." is so popular. I am italian/indian (native american not india) and I find some italians and indians good-looking and some not. I will not limit myself to my own race because of genetics. I actually feel sorry for a person who thinks only one kind of person is good-looking.
The funny thing is in different countries..."beauty" is defined differently.In the west indies..thick eye-brows are a quality sexy of a woman. Im talking about the "uni-brow."

(Everyone had a makeup kit under their chair.) In the plastic, self-absorbed world, I thought for a model especially, that was refreshing. And, she understands how scarring it is to grow up NOT looking like what most everyone around you considers "beautiful," no matter what you grew up to look like.

Prime, my gorgeous, I agree with you on Salma. I just love her. And Tyra? I always thought she was just a pretty lady until I saw her the Tonight show and she was just darling and had me laughing. I have to tell you all about it at the next gathering, if you can stay away from my knees long enough. Tyra also sponsors a camp for teen women to deveop high self-esteem etc. So she has scored big point with me---not that she is worrying about scoring pointw with me, but you get it.

Well it's true. America's idea of what is beautiful and attractive isn't the rest of the world's view. Plus, time will change it as well. If you look at the history books for the last three decades, you will see that beauty comes in different forms for men and women. Different for each generation.

I personally think Tyra's grown into her looks. When she first came on the scene as a model, I couldn't understand how someone could find her attractive. As she's gotten older and gained a little weight, she is voluptuous, "bootylicious", and all together much more attractive. She also has a "homegirl" personality that makes up for her oddly unique look.

I guess that I don't have to beat the point to death that tact goes a long way when a person expresses opinions of a race of people. I had to read the entire thread before I could post. I wasn't crazy about the "impossible" comment at all and understand the firestorm of criticism that followed.

And btw, I hate the term "African-American." There are many of us who have little to no African roots. We're a combination of many races as most Caucasians are.

Goes back to my statement about tact can go a long way when making general statements about a race of people. It doesn't matter who the race is either, but when it comes down to certain races who have experienced generations of loaded statements similar to yours, folks are going to get offended.
