The guitar heroes thread made me think about this--recently, which newer band and older band are you really into?

I'll go first.

Old: The Four Tops---motown always kills me, but I keep going back to these guys recently.

New: Daft Punk---their Alive 2007 cd has been a fixture on my ipod since I got it!

Can't wait to hear what you guys are all listening to!

Old --- just about every form of music, every genre..have fave artists and groups in all catogorys

New ---- none, music died somewhere between 1991/1992..RIP

Chopin and other classical...seriously.
Opeth

I got special passion for minor keys...Some eccentric dissonance, researched music if possible...no problem with hostilities as long as there is depth and meaning into how the music is done.

Just no rap for me.

Agreed 1000000000000000% dskodj.

Except that I might put it at about 95 to 96 when it died.

Old: Gotta be Elvis. Its good to be the king. 😀 😀

New: Tool. 😀

I love Chopin! Hehe...and a pianist's deft fingers have other uses we can all appreciate around here :firedevil

Old: Pink Floyd (never been another like them)

New: Disturbed (the only newer band that puts out good music consistently.)

Any other new music is either death metal, which I outgrew years ago, whiny, crying emo-type music or pop/hip-hop. What happened to bands that were original, innovative and even inspiring? :disgust:

hmmmm I was never one to say words like 'old school' to me music is timeless if its good. What ever was good or innovative 30 or 50 or 100 years ago is still that way now. I may be wrong but I just dont here anything now that is really that new though I do here good songs. I really liked some of the stuff by Radiohead but they are really not new anymore. And I have too long a list of older artist that I will always love dearly The Beatles being one of them.

Old: I do like Mozart. We share the same birth month and are only separated by a day or two. But if you can count things that are not quite that old, I'm going to go with the grugne bands that came out of Seattle back in the day: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains to be exact. Sirius Satellite Radio channel 28 is awesome for that kind of stuff.

New: Tool. My #1 favorite metal band and I listen to a lot of stuff that is much more hardcore than Tool, but they're still my favs!

Great thread idea!!

Old: Genesis w/ Phil Collins, Journey, Boston, Floyd, ABBA, Tom Petty, Foreigner, Metallica.

New: Atreyu, Chevelle, Seether, Against Me!, Disturbed, Ashes Divide, ect.

hehe ABBA :jester:

^ There is only one ABBA song that I love: "Eagle". This one has been inspired by Jonathan Livingston Seagull, at the same time it reminds me of AHA's beautiful song "Hunting High and Low."

Anyway...I could now join the :jester: with you...hehehe.

That's too bad that you feel that way. Especially with the internet now and not having to be forced to listen to the crap the radio forces you to, there's so much beautiful, independent music being made. You just have to look a little harder for it. And thankfully. If you're waiting for MTV or another mainstream 'music outlet' to give you something good to listen to, then yeah, it might as well be dead.

ABBA is dope, and you two are just jealous you can't get away with wearing blindy, tacky, cheesy matching outfits like they can. 😉

As for there being no good music anymore, that's garbage. Finding good music just takes more than turning on the radio.

Well, I will admit I have always liked the song "Take a Chance on Me," but I will never wear the cheesy outfits :jester:

It amazes me that more people still don't realize that the radio isn't there to expose them to good music..or even expose them to any music. It's there so you can listen to their commercials and chew on their bait every so often. Same with MTV, except they don't even try to fool people with pretending they're a music channel anymore.

Sometimes it just takes a friend turnin' you on to a good set of tunes...
