I want to subscribe since it is harder and harder to find films I like on TV. So, I need a Wii, ps3 or Xbox. I have no intrest in video games but I think that's what all these systems are? Which of these would be my best choice? Do they all cost about the same? 😕

Least expensive at this point may be the Wii but if you like movies I would go with the PS3 since you have a BluRay player with that. I think XBox may have HD capability I'm not sure. But I know for certain the PS3 does. So you could live stream them and also purchase some of your favorites to keep. Handy for those that Netflix doesn't carry.

PS3 is wireless, as is the Wii. XBOX you have to have a ethernet cord long enough to reach it if your modem/router is not close to your TV.

You can find great deals on used PS3's or Wii's at GameStop or other game stores usually.

I love my netflix...if you want to join I can send you a free one month trial card. Although usually they do that anyway....but I got a bunch in the mail today.

You don't specifically need a video game system to utilize Netflix. You could just get the service and have them send you movie discs, assuming you have a DVD or Blu-ray player.

They're not all priced the same. The Wii is probably the cheapest of the bunch. If you get the Wii, Netflix sends you a special disc to keep, that is required to be inserted to utilize Netflix, and view movies from their streaming menu. I'm honestly not a big fan of their menu, though. I feel they could have done a better job at how you search for movies you want to see. I'm not certain if Xbox or PS3 has the same requirements as the Wii, as I don't have a PS3 and my Xbox is broken. From my understanding, PS3 is the best bet if you want to take advantage of the blu-ray (You can watch blu-ray quality movies without having to pay higher, blu-ray prices to own the movies.). The PS3 is actually a really decent blu-ray. It's not like the sub-par DVD player the PS2 was, with all movies looking under-lit, but if you're not gonna play video games, you're pretty much throwing away a bunch of money. I think you're probably better off buying a cheap blu-ray player and having the discs sent to you, unless you plan on watching more than 1-2 movies every three days.

For the Wii at least, you don't need the special disc any more. You just need to connect your Wii to the wireless Internet and download a little the from the Wii shop. That's how I get mine. If you don't have wireless there are still ways to make it work. If thats the case let me know and I can help you remotely set it up. That's what I use to do for a living haha.

I'd have to add wireless service to my AT&T account, I have DSL service with them.

Thanks Rob. They offer a 30 day trial on the web site. Oh, I finally got something in the mail for you today. Sorry to be tardy yet again. 😱

Oh, I know. I just like the idea of being able to watch a film when I'm in the mood, or can't get to sleep.

No, I would not use it near that much.

Thanks hon. 🙂

Thanks to all for your guidence. It looks like my best option is to watch movies on the computer. I can't see spending a lot of money on a gaming system so I can watch a film on TV now and then.

Well I haven't seen anyone mention a Roku yet so here ya go: http://www.amazon.com/Roku-XDS-Streaming-Player-1080p/dp/B00426C57O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303254382&sr=8-1.

We use this in my house and it is much better and simpler then a video game system. Plus you have the option of also streaming Amazon on Demand, Hulu, Cracked and just about anything else you can think of. The one I posted is the best one available but you can get the lower version for a little cheaper.

All you need is an HDMI Cable and slot on your tv.

Well now, this looks intresting. Thanks hon. 🙂

i have DSL and i stream netflix on my laptop, without wireless ... just sayin'

Musicroxmysox beat me to it. 😀

There are also several standalone Blu-Ray players on the market that are internet-enabled and can stream Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and etc. I got the one in the link below for my parents last Christmas, and it worked really well.

Thanks Aus. I'll look into that. 🙂

Wait... why do you NEED a game console in relation to netflix, just out of curiosity? You can sign up for netflix on the computer.

If it is because you want to watch it on your television, do you have an LCD TV with an HDMI port on it? If so, does your computer have a white monitor hook up that looks like this? Then you could use this to connect your 'puter to your TV and watch netflix there.

That will only transmit video, not sound. Do you have an external surround sound system with your tv that has the red and white connectors on the back (ignore the yellow, it is for video which the HDMI is already covering)? If not, rather than buying a game system that you don't even want, you could prolly snag a cheap surround sound system from like walmart or best buy for a $100 or less. Depends on the quality you want.

Anyhow, if you have/get one of those, you could transfer sound from your computer by plugging this into your headphone jack on your computer and then just running a composite cable to your surround sound system (again ignore the yellow).

So all together:
Computer -> DVI to HDMI adapter -> HDMI cable -> TV (for video)
Computer -> headphone jack to composite adapter -> composite cable -> surround sound (for sound)

tada! Total cost if you already have surround sound system: bout $5-$40 (depending on the length of HDMI and composite cables you need). Total Cost without surround sound system: bout $150 if you buy a low cost one from like walmart.

Jeez, that was tiring put all those links in there lol. Hope it is of some help! This is the setup I use and it is absolutely amazing. The video card easily detects the television and allows you to set the resolution you want (If your tv can do 720p, select 1280x720. If your computer can do 1080p, select 1920x1080. Only choose one of those two. Picking something else won't mess anything up, it just won't be pretty.) The sound seemlessly transmits to your stereo and you are good to go).

SIDE NOTE: If you have a really fancy surround sound system with an HDMI input in it (and HDMI out to tv), then just buy the HDMI cable, go computer -> surround sound receiver -> tv and have high def sound and tv >_> But most people don't have it or don't feel like using it lol

NEGATIVE! Absolutely, positively, majorly negative! Just snag a wireless router from walmart. Ethernet cord goes from DSL modem into "Internet" plug on back of router. Router sends internet all over the place. It also has a 4 ethernet ports on the back of the router so you can go DSL modem -> router -> computer with wires if you want!

Only thing paying AT&T for wireless would do is have them switch your modem out with a wireless router/modem combo device. >_> Unless you really just don't want to deal with the router yourself, there's no reason to shell out unnecessary amounts of money. You can snag an el cheapo router for about $20

Now that is quite a tutorial. And much appreciated! Thank you good sir. 😀

I didn't take time to read the responses. We aren't into games either. So, we bought a Roku player. At only $60, it's much less than buying a gaming system. Also, in addition to being able to streem netflix, there are many other channels you can access with it...both pay and free. It can be used either wired or wireless. We've subscribed to MOG.com as well. They have tons of music of all genres.

That was already suggested but thanks hon. 🙂
