Right now, he's formed a band with Randy Rhoads, Cozy Powell, and Ray Gillien.

Jo haz no tuff, didn't anyone else know that? And yes, Metallica cutting there hair and "load" all happened around the same time. I am suprised that Jo isn't sticking up for her favorite balding band? 😉

I was there in the early days and I remember Lars and James had no idea why they were so liked.
We were the only Megaforce band that did a cover of Metallicas " Whiplash ".
They liked it but I bet you they were scratching their heads at the same time.
Its funny how fame can change a band.

Any Metallica fan will tell you that they too are disappointed at the way Metallica went about dealing with that Napster buisness. Most Metallica fans will also agree with you when you say that 'Reload' is a crappy album.

That's does not mean Metallica sucks though.

That's like a 'Beatles' fan saying that 'The Beatles' suck because of one album they released during their career.

It doesn't make sense.

I'd agree with you if I ever listened to anything Metallica after the 'Black Album'.

That's how far they've fallen.

It happens to all bands/artists though.

They become self-aware and ultimately betray their original artistic genius and vision.

At least Metallica put out some down right epic albums up until 'Black Album'.

Since then... yeah, they totally suck.

They're totally different.

To me there is two Metallica's:

Pre and post 'Black Album'.

One kicks @$$, one sucks it.

Hey, man, yeah that's fair enough. I guess I'm different because of the way in which I became a fan. I'd heard the Black Album and ..Justice, and my brother had them both on CD so I had already kind of heard the two sides of Metallica. However, the order in which I bought the other albums when i was 11 was like this:
-Ride the Lightening
-Load
-Master of Puppets
-Kill 'Em All
-Garage Inc.
-Reload
Followed By...St Anger and eventually Death Magnetic.

So, my growing like for Metallica came about as a result of a broader ear.

I don't see how you could say 'Death Magnetic' is a bad album though. It shows Metallica doing what they do best. Listen to 'My Apocolypse' or 'That was Just your Life'. And there's no point comparing the album to a recent thrashier Machinehead album, or a Trivium album, or even a 'Bullet' album, because these bands were heavily influenced by Metallica's sound.

Nobody can say that Metallica sold out. Because the fact of the matter is, they hit the mainstream playing thrash metal. That's why the became so massive! Because they played Thrash metal at its finest and at the time, it tapped into a demographic that were getting shitted on by a glam rock orientated industry. It's no coincidence that they are arguably one of the biggest bands in history.

And as an artist/producer myself, I can totally understand why Metallica would want control over how they're music is released. The way they handled it, particularly Lars, made it look as though it was about the money. But it is about control. If I made a song that was released to an audience without my permission, I'd be pretty pissy too.

Think about it, do you honestly think Metalilca would be getting pissy about a bunch of dudes downloading songs off 'Kill 'Em All' in 1999, when the album was released in 1983? No, if the op did a bit of research instead of posting youtube vids, he'd see that it was about 'I Disappear' off the MI:2 soundtrack. The song hadn't even had the official release and it was available for download on the Internet. I'd be bloody annoyed too.

They may have handled the situation badly. But piracy as a whole has the potential to destroy. Look at how piracy has affected the film industry. I payed $16 for a movie not too longer ago, and jokingly suggested that it wouldn't be long before ticket prices hit $20. But realistically, that's where we are heading.

So, yeah Metallica were bitching and moaning, and because they are already rich, it may look as though they are being greedy, but at the end of the day, it's money being taken away from them, just like it's an increasing amount of money being taken away from us, the consumer.

For heavens sake why oh why are people so eager to moan about Metallica. To me I love their diversity, granted there are albums of theirs that I don't listen to as much as other ones, but hey, they are entitled to change their style thats what being an artist is about, its their band they can do what the fuck they like. Oh yeah I can just hear the reports now moaning about them if they did the same old same old, kept on producing albums like Kill em All etc, that'll be something else for idiots to slag them off about. :sigh:
