Rob Zombie's Halloween

is the best and most brutal Horror movie I've seen so far!! It had everything I look for in a Horror movie. Michael Myers' character development was brilliant. This movie shows what life was like inside and outside of the Myers home for Mikey as a boy. Then it shows what life was like inside and outside of the asylum for Mikey as a teen/young adult and his remaining family members. And then it shows what life is like in Haddonfield once Mikey returns.

This isn't the slow Michael Myers (who breathes like he's obese) from the 1978 lame version. He also isn't the supernatural being that can get up after repeatedly being stabbed and shot and can still see after coat hanger stabs to his eyes. This Micheal Myers is more human and grittier!!

Ah, but remember they brought him back in Halloween Resurrection.... although their excuse as to HOW they brought him back was lame, but whatever. But this one is a remake...... well more like a re visioning... a remake would imply its the same dialouge, same everything,,, this has sections of dialouge from the original, and the plot line is mainly the same but just a new take on it.

They developed Michael Myer's character? That sounds promising. Hopefully, someone will remake Jaws to explain why the shark is so embittered .

I liked it, but to me it was an entirely different movie than the original. What made the original so terrifying was that it was basically a stalker movie. Rob's cut out most of the stalker scenes in favor of back story and graphic violence. It just wasn't as creepy as the original...but I'd see it again.

The acting of the teen girls were downright ATROCIOUS! Sure they were good to look at but Jaime Lee curtis was a girl to love, you wanted her to survive, in this, you just wanted to see the girl playin laurie getting axed.

Its almost like they merged halloween 1 and halloween 4-5 together with the interation with michael and a Strode

They showed michael too much, in the original and others, you saw him when he was stalking or POV was used ALOT with him. They showed him too much and rather ruined the mystique of michael


Something i did get off on, they showed clips of the original "Thing" in the movie
also the soundtrack was bleedin amazing

from what my sister told me..it sounds like it was sort of a prequel, like how he was abused as a child etc...how he killed his stepfather..how his mom i believe killed herself after he was committed...my sister went to see it and liked it..i'll stick with the original...much scarier...and that heavy breathing he did only added to the terror..

o and p.s....is this THE ROD ZOMBIE? love him..

Oh god, I cannot begin to tell you how much this movie sucked. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Halloween fan (just look at my signature), but Rob Zombie went and messed it all the fuck up. First off, the original was not in any sense a gory slasher film, it was a scary movie about an escaped murderer stalking babysitters on Halloween night. A scary concept, one that Rob Zombie turned into Friday the 13th. Of course, I'm a huge Friday the 13th fan too, but the two films are different. Basically it was just another Devil's Rejects, a film which is incredibly overrated by the way. This film just wasn't scary. It took all that was scary about the original and turned it into blood and gore, which isn't inherently bad, but just doesn't fit in with the original Halloween (the sequels maybe). But besides that, the young Michael Myers is a little pussy that you pretty much hate. And why must Rob Zombie put his wife in every movie he makes? She's not a particularly good actor, nor is she all that attractive.
Ah, okay I'm done ranting. Time for another beer...

I was only 7 when the original came out, didn't see it till a few years later, my friend's older brother had it on VHS. We took it out of his room to watch it. It scared the living crap out of me and Michael became my favorite horror guy since. After Dr Loomis died, I didn't care to see anymore in the original series.

As much as I am a Batman fan, people know I'm a huge Michael Myers fan. So of course, people asked me if I had seen it yet today at work. I had not, avoided any reviews and grabbed some co-workers and went to see it tonight.

It's not a prequel or a remake but as Zombie said, a revision. Carpenter told him to take the reigns and gave Rob his blessing for one.

An incredible job on the kid version of Michael, that kid had a great stare. BRUTAL violence, Michael Myers was pumped up with mega-heavy steriods.
I enjoyed it because it was different, I had seen the original a million times. Do you know how hard it's to scare audiences nowadays? Not sure if this revision will scare teens nowasays but it had people jumping and the girls covering their eyes tonight. I could feel the aluminum bat on my head, very brutal.

The girl who played little Jenny from Forrest Gump is all grown up and it was hard seeing Jenny get thrashed and slashed. Run Jenny Run! But she couldn't escape Michael.... They also had the girl who was in 4 or 5 who could see through Michael's eyes. It was cool to see her back, all grown up as well.

Over all if you really loved the original, don't go see this version, it's not the same. If you're open minded and like seeing a new idea with an original horror character, you may enjoy this version. I will see it again and now I need to buy the updated mask. My jumpsuit is still in the closet but my old mask has had it.

I thought the original was boring and stupid but I saw the new one anyway and it was way better. Maybe good horror movies aren't a thing of the past, lets hope this turns the genre around.

I hated HOATC, with that fucking clown. I only watched Rejects, because I heard they all got killed. But Rob Zombie's version was so much better, because you saw the how and why and not just the WHAT? We didn't know in the first one, why Michael was after Jamie Lee. And in the original, all we saw was a kid kill his sister, BUT WHY? We didn't find out until the sixth movie, which came out in 95 starring Paul Rudd of Knocked Up LOL!

As far as acting goes, everyone did great including Sheri. I was hoping to see her get killed, but I actually felt sorry for her character. I saw her as a Mom who got knocked up and left by the father of her children, so she turned to stripping because the money was good. Malcolm McDowell was great as Dr. Loomis, as he was in his CLockwork Orange Days when the orignal came out. Donald Pleasance would've been proud, i think. I only wished Loomis could've had a more self sufficient sacrifice at the end. I expected to see him turn on the gas in the Myers home and let Michael burn in hell like in Halloween 2. But at least Myers actually DIED in Zombie's version. And yes, he did sound like he was obese, Tyler Mane sounded normal.

We saw what the other Halloween movies lacked, which was the psychological aspect of Michael Meyers, and the character development. And despite all of Michael's killings, he didn't want to kill Laurie, which gave the character some type of sympathy. Despite all his rage and being kept in a cage, he loved his mother and sister and he felt like he could stop and be whole again if he was with the one's he loved. That's what a psychopath does, they seek comfort in their version of Euotopia when they see something or someone that they like or desire. Like Hannibal Lector, if you will. It was only after Laurie stabbed him in the heart (literally) that pushed him over the line and then he was nothing but the monster after that point. It was also cool to hear Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" before he killed Judith and Linda.

Gory yes, slasher film like Friday the 13th, FAR FROM IT!!!

Well, I'll say this much about it.
A) I'm glad I finally watched "House of" a few months back and was prepared for Rob's style.
B) I'm glad I've got years of experience working around blood and guts and got to see it with likelymindedly twisted friends. We laughed our asses off, much to the horror of some of the audience.
Not for the weak of stomach. I liked it better than the first~two thumbs up!

I find it criminal that some people would actually call John Carpenter's Halloween "boring and stupid". I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, but whatever. To me, the original will always be the best. I never needed to know "why" Michael Myers did what he did. That was the entire point. Up until the night he killed his sister Judith (in the original), Michael Myers was seemingly a very normal kid that came from a normal family. Then he just... snapped. At that moment, that little boy lost his very soul. The very thought that a child could do something so heinous was frightening.

I guess today's audiences need buckets of gore and everything to be explained to se satisfied, though. Having said that, I liked Zombie's take on it, even if it did differ from the original. But to call Carpenter's classic "boring and stupid"? Wow.

First off, i dont know why there is a need to post "Avoid spoiler" comments, people who see the title will know its about Halloween, now onto the discussion
1. Its established why myers was after jamie lee curtis, because myers hated his entire family in the first one. Also in 4-5, we find out he is hunting family members, like his niece.
2. I dont know how you can say the others LACKED psychological horror. I can redirect what you infer, in that in this movie they explain the how's and whys, well, when you dont know those answers, it makes it more terrifying. How or why is michael still alive and killing, how is he so strong. Why does he not talk. Also in the original movies, we rarely saw a clear day shot of him, you assume\believe he is in the bushes or you only see a part of his body\feet\etc

and IMO, i thought the acting sucked, esp the girl who played laurie

so I'm gonna put what I did on facebook's flixter feature, where i put one review down: "I'm giving it a two and a half because i feel at odds with the film.
Good points first: i liked how Myer's childhood developed, I was really intrigued by the masks and the obsession with "covering the ugliness". The escape scene prettymuch makes the movie (rob zombie's movie, that is) in that it's so brutal, and so hardcore.
Things that irked/turned me off to the film: the constant screaming....don't get me wrong, i know it's a horror film, but i mean, this was the same useless screaming that is usually identified with texas chainsaw massacres, in which this was not what the film was about. Perhaps rob thought that because they're both masked men, that they need to unify in a similar life story? it just felt like a different scene from the texas chainsaw the beginning. I didn't like how the film didn't do more with the story and myer's past, nor did Laurie ever discover he was her brother. I also didn't like how the movie (and all the other movies in this case), if he was just such a psycho, yet still human, why was he made seemingly immortal? like seriously, he gets shot at least 5 times, stabbed, and he still manages to come off like superman with the shit he does?! It doesnt make sense to give a character a beginning if your just going to make him more of a zombie than anything"
that was just after i saw the film........12 hours later i can prettymuch agree the character develop idea was good, the brutality was good (but wasn't really explained) the screaming sucked, the superhuman abilities sucked (lets face it, there were so many good opportunities in that film to kill him that were concievable; it feels like rob dragged the whole thing out).

I'll finally conclude with this: it's a good movie, but it felt like the storyline could be compared too closely to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the beginning. Oh, and skipping months in his life when he could've been analyzed greater was lame too

Haha, allright so it wasn't that bad. And I wasn't drunk when I wrote that response ObservingEgo, just venting. Allright, allright, I admit the movie wasn't that bad. On second observation it was actually pretty decent as far as a slasher goes (although I still don't like Rob Zombie). But either way, the original was still waaaay better and a lot scarier.
