do you all remember watching this as a child?

i have vague recollections of the "good do-bee". boy has children's programming changed.

Excellent thread starter Baron!

We had a Canadian version of the show.At the end of the show the host put a mirror up to her face (Looked the size of a tennis racket) and said a phrase like "Romper Stomper Bomper Boo.." or something to that effect. The screen would go out of focus during her chant and when it ended the mirror suddenly became see-thru and her face appeared looking through the mirror frame,She than started rhyming off names of children she claims she could see watching at home.

Does anyone remember watching Captain Kangaroo in the 60's? - with Bunny Rabbit stealing the carrots and Mister Moose dropping those
"PING PONG BALLS!!!! on the Captain.

He's a call out to members living in Pennsylvania!
In the 60's - the Buffalo ABC station used to have a children's show called "Rocketship 7".The host of the show was a man called Dave Thomas. If I remember correctly - Dave went on to be a news anchor in the Pittsburgh or Philadelphia area.
I remember a very obscure film in the '80s caled "Wrong is Right" (w/Sean Connery)that featured a TV clip of Dave Thomas reading the news on a TV set in the movie.Does anyone know if Dave Thomas is still around today?
As for Rocketship 7-Maybe some other Canadian members and members in the Upstate New York area will remember that show - with Promo the Robot and Mr. Beeper (aka Biff Beeper who reported sports scores -for some unknown reason).

about a year or so ago the ABC station (Channel 7, hence RocketShip 7) did a retrospective because the station was turning 50 i believe it was...they looked up the old anchors....Dave Thomas among them, i believe they said he still lives in the Philly area (if that's where he ended up,the only rocket ship 7 i remember was with Commander Tom..who was with Dave Thomas and hosted the show after he left)....yep i remember Promo (although the version i remember is slightly different than the original....and there was a puppet too but i can't remember it's name)

oh ty ray😀 and for you buffy the vampire slayer fans...Dave Thomas is David Boreanaz father...oh yeah mr beeper(the puppet, according to tom jolls aka commander tom...one of the secretaries washed the sock puppet and it came back looking ragged so that's why his appearance changed😀

Tom Jolls (Commander Tom) had his own show in the afternoon in the 60's.One of his star puppets was a dog named "Dustmop".
gigglygirl125 : Did you ever get an "MD Carnival Kit" and have a carnival for Muscular Distrophy?

Added note: Gigglygirl125 - Are you too young to remember the show after Rocketship7 called "Dialing for Dollars" with Nolan Johiness & the band "Johnny & Jimmy"(a drum and accordian combo????)? It was a combination variety / game show where contestants could dail a number on a rotary phone and win $10 dollars and if they won that they could try for $100.dollars!!! (Wow -$110 dollars cash in prizes!!)

Having never heard of this program, I gave it a quick google search. My god, some of the stuff from that show is just plain SURREAL...

Particularly THIS.

:wow: :wow: :wow:

i remember a brief period during which a show with a puppet like dragon was on. what was that name??? i even joined the club to receive a dragon in the mail.

and how about "the magic garden"? remember sherlock the squirrel? those 2 fat broads always said hello to people in the audience, but never once mentioned the name Brad.

If I remember right, Romper Room was a franchise that was sold to local TV stations. Each area had it's own version that used the templates knocked out by the parent show. So there were many different 'teachers' always a fetching 20ish woman, each local to her own market. There was a lot of variety between versions because some markets would or would not use different parts of the 'package'

Myriads

What was that show with Kookla, Fran, and Ollie? I used to watch it while I waited for Wild Kingdom to come on.

:jester: :jester: :jester:
I see Knox and Dr. Bill and Ray and...

I grew up on this, Zoom, Sesame Street, electric company and whatever that weird one was with Henrietta Hippo (we loved it though!)

XOXO

We used to watch Electric Company in class in the 1st grade. It would be such a time-warp for me to see old episodes of that crazy show, Steph!

As bad as some of these oldies were, they're no worse than some of the kid's stuff out these days. I'm still fairly convinced that THE WIGGLES are in fact the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Ok then doc~a little trivia for you. Which male, black member of electric company went on to be a HUGE movie star?

XOXO

That's an easy one, Steph! Morgan Freeman, of course. Neener Neener 😛

{Kobb walks quickly away, whispering thanks to Google under his breath}

"Oui Oui, Mon Cheri Amore!"

Of corse I remember Romper Room LOLL. And oh yeaaa...the "Electric Company"..I actualy have an album of Electric Company..and yes..Morgan F. is on it as Ez Reader (think that was his name? LOL). Also heres another bit of trivial stuff...Mel Brooks was even on there a few times😉

hey socks...unfortunately i'm alittle too young to remember Dialing for Dollars (was born in the late 70's)...and my version of the rocketship 7 was probably called something else(probably the commander tom show or something like that)😀

You mean you missed most of the Seventies as well??!!
No!!! :sadcry:

By the way giggleygirl-as I've recently divulged my location (see under my name)-I was wondering...What's your basement like?
:feets: <<<<----

Say, speaking of the Seventies, anyone else suffer permanent brain damage from some of these twisted kids TV shows?
