Its a combination. The rain makes the soil very loose and then the wind knocks the tree over. 🙁

Yes when the soil get very wet it turns to a slush. The slush has no real structural integrity so the wind can more easily knock the tree over. At least I think thats what happened. Its been windy here before tree was fine.

Yea I think so. We had very strong winds here a few weeks ago. Tree held up.
