I'm thinking of a place in the wine country, where the menu is written every morning from notes made on a constitutional through the garden, along the edge of the pond, then into the woody patch that hides the road going past. Finally, after a long swing through the pastures and another traipse through the garden, we clean our boots and leave them on the steps.

Then we go in, pour the coffee strong and black, mix it grandes cremes, and start on the chalkboard. We'll move it out front after we open the public doors.
