I'm sure you know Falcon is still around and still building asphalt-ripping machines. I gather that looking for fast gaming machines is the method graphic artists use to find machines that will render large images in the same day.

Yea I know. Just a bit too pricey for me. 😛

The big difference from a fast gaming to a ass ripping workstation is the video card. Gamers need a super fast card for the fast changing graphics in a game. Graphic Artists need precision. Each pixel needs to be determined just right. Quadro is usually what I use.
 
I have long been fascinated by the difference between a screen image and a printed image. There's the difference between RGB and CMYK color, and the realization you just triggered, that print images are not jammed into a pixel grid.

You must print in-house if only scaled-down versions of the final work. Or is it okay for a graphic artist to work paperless?

Printers are an interesting subject onto themselves. There are the InkJet, Laser, and Ink Sublimation. The latter produces good images and no worries about clogged jets but it is very pricey and to date the largest sublimation I have seen is only 4X6, Inkjets produce the best images. For me Epson is the best. Sadly you need to print every week or your jets will clog costing you more ink cartridges, Ink Cartridges are waaaaaaaaaaaay expensive and for a professional printer a set of cartrdiges can run you 200 bucks. Very pricey clogs to say the least. Color Laser printers have no clogging problems and can produce bigger prints. Image quality is ok not great though. For the most part I always look on the monitor and on a photframe to review things I have done.

On a side note for a truly expensive PC I have seen a VooDoo PC that went for 13,000 with a gold plated case. :laughhard:
 
Looking at those Quadro cards, even the lower-priced versions are not cheap. They sure know who to hit for the money.

Armada Status:

The Armada has saved Snorphous BlapoMat and several other citizens of the world that lies behind door #444,444 from the Shandrew Tamb Bodecai demons that have invaded that world. Snorphous is taking the Armada to the leaders of world # 444,444 so that this critical world and its vital citizens can be saved.

I may not be able to get online tomorrow or for a few days if my laptop fails totally. It seems ok for now but its very much an unknown at this point. :fingerscrossed:
