The Self Referential Thread

Yea I been to the Mojave Desert a few times. You have to be well prepared. A very dangerous place if you are not. I watch a few Survival shows and many times the survival people say the freezing temps are harder to deal with then the heat.
Exactly. After the sun set it dropped about 60 degrees in two hours and they had to run back to their rental car and shiver until the heater started blowing hot air.

Glad they made it back safely. 🙂 My geologist friend that I went to the Mojave with always had a check list. Check the car out make sure it worked well and that the AC and heating worked as well. Plus had emergency supplies in the trunk. Like extra water, mylar blanket, stuff to start a fire, signal flares etc.

They were lucky the car's heater worked. They hadn't thought to test it when it was 100+ degrees in the daytime. I will know better if I ever visit a desert.

😀 😛

Yes very lucky. Survival scenarios can surprise you. Always best to be prepared for anything. Most of the time the stuff you need does not take up much room but can save your life when it is needed. 🙂

Very wise, Kurch. 😀 😛

Geologists as you might suspect always have to go out into rather rough environments so they are in general well versed in basic survival skills. 😀 😛
Yes, I can see why. Probably field anthropologists are, too. 😀 😛
