The Superhero Thread

Geez, depends on when in time you ask me.

Like my sinister e-twin, qjakal, I dig Wolverine and Spectre. Depends on who's doin' 'em, though. Seen both messed up by bad writers and/or artists. That Bella has associations 'tween Wolverine and I cracks me up. One o' the nicest things anyone ever said 'bout me, way I figure it. That Alan Moore saved the Spectre saga was a blessin' for comic geeks everywhere.

I'd add Nightcrawler t'that mix, as a childhood fav. Somethin' 'bout fuzzy, blue, pointy eared German folk that can disappear in shadows just appealed t'me. That he was so... nice was a trip. If I were burnt outta my home, I'd likely be a bit more tense.

Also dig Batman and Robin, again dependin'... Wouldn't give ya a nickle for that mess in the seventies, but much since the dark knight saga was respun by Frank Miller. Yeah, clearly DC jacked the storyline by goin' wide (Knightfall and that whole Bane mess) but there was some good stuff in there, too.

Too many to name... Bats and Wolverine are the two favs, Spectre's up there, and most of the rest goes to non-hero comics in the Vertigo strain... Wait, Cerebus. That's another hero, even if he ain't so super. Amusin' as hell, and the writer's mad as hatters and damned interestin'. Pisses me off sometimes, but that he's gettin' thinkin' into a comic book just impresses me, even when I don't agree.

Thanks for the thread, Kurchatovium. Another bit o' evenin' cheer for me!

You are quite welcome dvnc. We here (well actually only me) at Kurchatovium Thread Technologies aim to please.😀

Don't forget...

My brother who is serving overseas sent me this link. Space Moose was probably more of a cult fave among Canuck University students than an actual Superhero, but I'll let you see for yourself:

http://www.spacemoose.com/

At one time the strip was popular enough that someone created icon sets for *both* Mac and PC, and well, the illustrations are nothing if not deeply disturbing!!! 😀

Dvnc, which version of the Spectere do you like? The Jim Corrigan version or Hal Jordan? Me I'll admit I do like the Hal Jordan(former Green Lantern) Version

The Jordan lantern is interesting, and I'm readin' it, but my fav is the original story revived in the last decade. Spectre's an old one that keeps gettin' respun. Good potential, and some great writers have done well by it.

Judge Dredd

I realize the character suffered terribly as a result of the awful Stallone movie but "ol' slab face" deserves some recognition! For those not familar with him, he was a British charicature of the American military/law enforcement - a one man police force, judge , jury and usually executioner! How many other so called heroes, when tempted by Satan, would arrest Lucifer for trying to bribe an officer ... and Dredd has no super powers! My favorite scene had to be Dredd on his motorcycle, facing off with the entire Russian army (if I recall it right) and radioing headquarters, dead serious (Dredd was ALWAYS dead serious), "Am preparing to engage Sovs ... prepare holding pens for 150,000 prisoners."

Powdered Toast man was a good call. The other good call was the Adam West version of Batman. Adam West was better than any of the movie Batmans. If you don't believe me, than light one up and check out the West version.
But the one super hero who was neglected in this thread was the Brown Hornet.
I'm very glad to see that no one mentioned Aqua-Man. If there is ever a thread titled "Lamest super heros" Aqua-Man would be at the top of the list.

Does anyone else remember...

Isis?

I *so* loved that show in the '70's! To me, Wonder Woman didn't seem nearly as cool... It's likely one of the main reasons I was so fond of the "Storm" character from The Original X-Men.

I remember thinking, "Hey, she's in charge of all the elemental forces, just like Isis... only *she's* a mutant instead of an Egyptian Goddess!" Okay... maybe I wasn't *quite* so articulate, but it was something along those lines! 😀

Oh mighty ISIS!

ROFL! I'd totally forgotten that slice of 70s fun. Right up there with Electra-Woman and Dynagirl! Damn...

Dude, big hair and loud colors... you who missed it should be glad you escaped!

Peace,

dvnc
