Tickling/Religion/Guilt & Evil...

New direction...

Guess we've gone off on a tangent again on this winding thread...lol. The "Evil" part of it is certainly appropriate though. The bad days have come again Strel...may we outlive them one more time. Q

This state is as unlike NYC as it's possible to be and still be in America. Two weeks ago, lots of folks here would have said they wouldn't mind if NYC slid off into the Atlantic. That's sure not the case now.

What a shame that it took an atrocity to turn us back into one country again.

Strelnikov

Aaaah..

But what a blessing that this was soooo close to the surface and showed us how quickly we can work together and bury the differences that used to loom so large in our everyday lives.... Q

RE:

<b>"I originally started this chain of thought to rebut Scott, but he ran away from a forum full of people disagreeing with him like a little left-handed girl before I could post it."</b>

I decided to check this forum out one last time before I leave tomorrow. I came upon this thread and the quote above. Whoever posted that remark is sorely mistaken. I stand behind my beliefs (as ever changing as they are🙂 completely. I am not a prophet, nor a seer. I do not claim to be any better or any holier than any man or woman on the Internet. I just shared what I was experiencing in my life and in my time. There was such wild speculation when I gave up the post of Administrator that I thought a valid warrant for such an action should be explained. Thus, I posted. You have drawn your own conclusions based upon my initial post and those conclusions are inherent to you as individuals. They are a mirror reflecting your own beliefs, loves, hatreds and biases. I do not claim any of them as right or wrong. I strongly believe that what I give credence to is what is right. That, however, does not make it right. Not for everyone. It makes it right for me. I am not postulating that God (or whatever name you wish to give him) provides a so broad a spectrum as to account for all those who claim to worship him. Case in point: The Islam terrorist who blew up the world trade centers claimed they were doing Allah's will. There is one God, and he has only one story. God is a truth and His involvement with mankind since the beginning is singular in that there is only one right way. Whether the Catholics got it right or the Jews, Islam's, Protestants, Lutherans, etc, etc, is something only God knows. We each much approach Him in our own way and in our own time. But be certain, there is only one approach. Whether we are on the track to that truth is unknown. But it is said "God (Jesus) is the way and truth and the light. Trust in Me and you will never die." If that is so, then when we find the right path it will lead us to God. Are we each, individually on the right path now? No. Our approaches to God are multiple and vastly diverse. There is only one right course. Does that mean that all who do not believe in the "right" course are destined for Hell? No. Let me refer a quote to you from one of the Virgin Mary's recent messages:

"The Blessed Mother told Marijana that there was a resident in Medjugorje that was very near sainthood. The people demanded of the visionary, who? who? Mirijana told them the name of the woman. They were astounded. It was a Moslem woman."

I only share my thoughts and beliefs with you here because I think it is of vital, no that is not a strong enough word, it is of damning importance that we discuss it.

I think the World Trade Center disaster reminded everyone that we are human. We are mortal beings. There is an end to us and it is very near in the broad spectrum of time. But so many do not search out that end, rather they revel in the present and put their stock in material good and wealth, in sexual distractions. What are we distracting ourselves from? The end will find us as surely as the sun warms you and the snow lures you to rest. It is but a matter of time. As the Virgin Mary has said, "Your life is but a fading flower. But your life in Heaven is eternal."

I'll leave you with that. I leave tomorrow on a 10:00 flight to Medjugorje. It will be my first. I am eager with anticipation, yet fearful of the dangers of the journey. If and when I reach home again I'll be sure to let you all know what I experienced.

Some additional food for thought: For those who give no credence to the Virgin Mary nor disbelieve in her apparitions or involvement with this world, let me quote to you the words of Pope John Paul II as he was hit with an assassin's bullet: "Mary, my mother!...."

Good-bye for now and may God act within all of your lives!

Scott

<b>"I originally started this chain of thought to rebut Scott, but he ran away from a forum full of people disagreeing with him like a little left-handed girl before I could post it."</b>

Actually I throw right handed and pitched at the college level. I'll bet a dime a dozen I can throw a hell of a lot harder than you.

A stupid rebuke and one mired in pride, but after all we're all human 🙂

Left or Right Handed...

Good trip....trust in God, but sit behind the wing. : ) Q

Concernin' Islamic faith

Ah, right. Good trip to ya, Scott.

I've a question concerning Islamic faith. I could swear that, in my study of it in my youth, I found that it eschews killing, much as does the Bible, and every other religious text I've read.

What religions DO support killing, and when, and what documents explain this? I want proof. Everyone I've known, of the Islamic faith, were non-violent. Is that just here in California?

A few words on Islam

The very word "Islam" is based on the root "salam"=peace. The traditional Islamic greeting "As-salamu 'alejkum" means "peace be with you". In its original version, Islam is just as peaceful as Judaism and the Old Testament (on whose scripts the Qur'an is based). Abraham, Moses, and Jesus occupy important roles as predecessors of Mohammed, the final prophet. And just like these other Holy Books, it allows the revenge principle: "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." The Islamic jurisdiction in orthodox countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia still kill murderers (many modern western nations do that as well), and they still amputate hands for large-scale theft.

The Islamic concept of Jihad (holy war) was only coined on those nonbelievers who fight against Islam. But just like in Christianity, this concept was abused by many rulers to disguise their hunger for more power and territory. Religion was perverted to motivate the population to support these rulers. History shows many dark examples for all religions.

And the peoples accepting the early Islam were mostly young, violent nations. Bedouin tribes used to fight against each other, the first power to unify them was the 'new' common religion. From then on, they turned their wrath on their 'non-believing' neighbors. Those people knew nothing but a warrior life, and they became the most vicious fighters of their era. They called themselves "Mujaheddin", fighters in a 'holy war', misguided by their leaders. The Taliban use the same expression for themselves, and for the same reasons.

Even the word 'assassin' is of Arabian origin. A political leader (I think during the Baghdad Caliphate of early Islam) used to abduct young, strong men to his mountain fortress. There he treated them all as if they were in paradise, with all the pomp and luxury the ancient oriental world knew. Like in Mohammed's description, there were fountains of wine (which is only forbidden for living muslims), the finest food hanging from trees, beautiful women (prostitutes actually) ready for as much sex as they wanted, and lots of hashish (cannabis).

From time to time he sent one of them out to attack an opposing ruler, and they all were told they could only return to this paradise if they died in the attack themselves. Because of the excessive hashish consume, these suicidal attackers were called 'hashishin', which became 'assassin' in most European languages. And it's exactly this legend what makes Arabian terrorists the most dangerous ones in the world, because it lives on in their minds.

Just like in every other nation, there are rarely headlines about ordinary, peaceful people, the vast majority. Only the extremists, the criminals, and the politicians are mentioned in newspapers and TV broadcasts. I have traveled through many Islamic countries, and I'm still in contact with some friends there. None of them 'dances on the streets', that's reserved for the political fanatics. The mob. The decent Muslims all condemn terrorism, especially this hideous attack on the USA, and they believe that whoever committed this crime must belong to Islam's worst enemies, whatever country he comes from.

Good post, Hal. You're obviously well informed, because your views coincide with mine 🙂

BTW, this thread ranks No. 1 on number of replies since the beginning of the "new" forum, and is one of only a few to get 5 stars. What does that say about the members of this "fetish" board?

RESET

Gonna move this one back up to the top. Mods, should this thread be transplanted to the General Discussion forum? Or is this a better home for it?

Back from the ...inert?

Yup, this is the one that had us all hopping around! When its read in its entirety, its almost a Russian novel...lol!🙄 Q

I'm going to leave the thread here. It touches, and speaks to some of the feelings of guilt that people might feel while exploring the fetish. So it's on topic for this forum. Seems a useful thread for any who might have had such thoughts.

Okay, gang, fresh meat entering the pool. LOL. Just thought I'd throw my opinions into the mix, hopefully adding to and not diluting the conversation. I consider myself to be spiritual, not rigidly religious, but I do follow a mainstream approach to worship, life, etc. My feeling is that I will be happy to talk to someone about my views, but I will not force myself upon them, nor try to judge them about theirs. I enjoy tickling between people who enjoy it, and use it affectionately, not as purely torture or infliction of laughter. As humans, we have free will and can determine our own likes and dislikes, whether we find an historical basis, i.e. religion or philosophy, or whether on our own analysis of the world. Bottom line for me is, each person is responsible for themselves, and as long as life and tickling are about the love, it's all good. The personal religious sides of ourselves are up to us and no one else. LOL. May sound like a cop out, not specifying what I do and don't believe in, but that would take waaaaayyyy too long to list.

Welcome to the Monkey House, Smiley. If you've read this thread all the way through, you will have noticed that yours is a mainstream viewpoint in this community. Q and Hal tend toward anti-clericalism; I'm willing to give the preachers the benefit of the doubt unless they show their @$$. There are plenty of others in between. But we all switch off from time to time, just to keep the pot stirred. This is a DISCUSSION - says so on the label.

Strelnikov

...and a fine discussion it is, Strel. Glad to see it resurface.

Anti-idiots...lol

I'm just...picky...about who I think should be preaching the "truth". It's a grave responsibility to set oneself up as the dispenser of the "one true way". You should be prepared to show your obvious talents and qualifications, and be in a perpetual state of education...an ongoing endeavor of self improvement. Given that, I don't see how you should have time to actually run an organized religious edifice of any type. The concepts are contradictory and hence I have an issue with those types of organizations. I believe I gave my theory on the rise of religion somewhere back in the first page or so, but let me restate it simply: --- It's my contention that we invented it to keep all the old people from killing as many young ones as they can once they realize they're about to ship off to the great unknown. Sure, that seems simplistic, but great ideas often are... Q

great thread!!

Damn, what an amazing thread. Thanks for bumping it back into circulation. If I wasn't practically dead on the keyboard and traveling tomorrow I'd dive in deeper, but for now I'll just leave a quick thought on the outlook to which most of us seem to ascribe. It's more a political idea than an ethical one, but it seems to apply here. It's good ol' Natural Law, and pretty well sits at the core of how modern free societies are designed:

"Each person owns their life and can do as they please with that life, so long as they don't forcibly interfere with the life of another."

Sometimes that statement kicks off some interesting debates; sometimes it's just a thing that makes you go hmm. Mainly I'm just trying to keep this thread at the top of the list... 😉

Somehow....

This 'ol thread just won't stay dead....lol. I believe we were cranking away on the definition of "evil" when Sept 11th hit and made further discussion unnecessary, thanks to the bin Laden school of asinine audio-visual effects. It won't be the same without Scott, because I really wanted to get him to "rank" the evils of tickling lust/pleasure/desire etc on the list of bad deeds and nasty things. I personally think it would be up there with staring at nuns and wondering if they have "secret" fun and such other abominations, but unless he relents and at least takes a new pseudonym I don't think that one is going to get off the ground. Threads on child abuse and child porn lately, as well as other perceived evils can be integrated into the points made here, both recently and in the past. As usual, I restate my position that tickling in general is NOT going to make any god worth his/her salt go "Hmmmm...oh it's YOU, Strel! (just an example picked at random)....and banish you to whatever from of eternal torment is around in that continuum. I am also rooting for Valhalla to exist, as it seems my kinda joint! Jump back in the water guys and gals....the Evil Tickling thread is back in town! Q

Those of us with a Catholic upbringing and an analytical turn of mind could probably come up with a schedule of tickling demerits, on a per-minute basis. Something like this, maybe:

10 pts - genital tickling
8 pts - underarms - freshly bathed
4 pts - ditto - smelly
8 pts - ribs and belly
7 pts - thighs
5 pts - knees
3 pts - feet (even clean, lots of people consider them "icky")

Each point = 1 day in Purgatory per minute of tickling.
If you ENJOYED it - multiply by 10.
Naked tickling - multiply by 10 again.

Strelnikov

Could it be... SAAAATAN?!?

Tickling is pure, satanic, wicked-nasty evil. Unless it is done strictly for non-sexual purposes. Simply put, if you pop wood while tickling/being tickled, you're going straight to hell. And I mean the BAD part of hell. Ladies, same deal for you. Pull the female equivalent of wood-popping whilst tickling/being tickled, and you burn. Toasty. Cinders. The whole 9 yards. Now if someone is simply tickle-torturing a captured Russkie spy, (or Eva Savealot from those commercials) they're fine. Heck, they're just doing their civic duty.

JUST KIDDING!!!

I personally don't find tickling the least bit evil, I mean, so long as someone isn't out actually kidnapping and tickle-torturing people against their will. I don't even really equate it to sex (which I also feel isn't evil) in terms of morality or whatever, because no matter how long or arduously I tickle someone, it's not going to cause procreation. (also, it won't give you the clap. Bonus!) It may LEAD to procreative (real word?) activity (even the sinful "just for pleasure" kind of procreative activity 😉 ) but that's another story.

I've certainly felt guilt over my tickling fetish before, although I honestly couldn't say why. I've had the "Damn it, I'm not normal and it sucks!" sort of feeling many, MANY more times than the guilty feeling. Haven't had "The Purge" yet, though.

--------------------------------------------------

Years ago, in one of those "unbelievable facts" type books, I read about a religous sect named, if I remember correctly, the "Movarians." They had strict rules, which could be enforced with the death penalty. However, those same rules precluded violence of any form. Therefore they enacted their death penalty by, you guessed it, tickling the offender to death. I don't know how credible this is, but I swear I read it! Perhaps some nunneries do the same?

Oh, man! It's 2:20, and I've got an accounting test in the morning! I may not need to study, but I certainly need to sleep... 😛

I gotta read the rest of this thread tomorrow. It's fascinating!

Accounting?

Wow...wouldn't have thought you were a merciless tickling fiend AND an accountant asutickler! Why not just go intern for the IRS and get it over with? 🙂

Strel, Strel, Strel....what am I gonna do with you? You just refuse to take this seriously enough! Here I am battling to save your wicked old tarnished soul, and you are making silly lists!! Sigh...need help from the lurkers, because this guy is just too far gone for one ancient semi-Druid such as myself to save....:zzzzz: Q

you have to be qualified to preach?

qjackal mentioned that if one sets oneself up to preach the one true truth he or she should be able to show their obvious talents and qualifications. q also mentioned that a preacher should be in a constant state of learning and education. Then q stated that he didn't see how that would allow time to run a church organization.

My questions would be:

What are the obvious talents and qualifications that a preacher should have?

Any type of work, especially professional careers, demands that the worker be constantly learning and getting better educated. Given that, how could any doctor have time to actually treat patients?

Just to add interest to the mix here, I should let you know that I am a Christian minister currently pastoring a church.

Fair Enough!

Aaah. You see? If you make enough silly statements, you can nearly always find what (or who) you're looking for! Omega!! Where have you been? Must I throw the gauntlet down to find a man of the cloth to share with us poor TMF sinners and saints? Yes indeed, HOW can one show that one is qualified to teach the true way? Should you glow in the dark? Have a full head of hair? Speak an amazing number of languages? Radiate an aura of mystery and power?

Obviously not....I've looked and listened to many a man with many a mantra!

Nope...but, you SHOULD live a life that demonstrates the virtues of the lifestyle you espouse. You SHOULD be ready to assimilate new experiences and thoughts and grow and learn and adapt and adjust and NOT acquire and covet and hoard and insulate. And that's just to APPLY to become a theologian!!

As for your analogy, let me toss that 'ol potato back at you...do YOU think you have the time to properly run a "business" such as a church, and give the proper time to actual pastoring that you should, or would like to be able to? Does your fabled doctor spend WAY too much time filling out forms for an HMO. leading to poorer care for his patients than he/she would desire? I rub shoulders with many doctors who have exactly that problem! Wouldn't you be better able to serve the flock if you weren't actually running an organization accountable to "man"? Your "doctor" SHOULD be updating himself constantly, not having meetings with lawyers for malpractice insurance sessions and drug reps for trying out the latest fad , (BTW Doc, here's a pass for the game tonight), and sitting in on hospital board cost control meetings and...well...I think you get the idea.

Please join us and be patient with the tone. I have ...issues...with god. He/She/It has NOT met the criteria that I so desperately need a deity to attain. There must be a reckoning, and I have called forth all the god/s to come, whether it be to smite me down or debate me to my knees, but none answer the challenge. You will say it is due to a lack of faith on my part, a refusal to "see" god all about me in his glory. You will shame me with my pride and cast aspersions upon my character for daring to ask for such a thing. You MUST call me a man of egotistical bluster...a pariah and fool! But....still they or he or she remain aloof....I stay vigilant and ready, I prepare myself daily for such an event. My anger runs deep...someones God/s are to blame for the things we have endured, both privately and worldwide. Of course I have no right to such a summit...but it is all that will satisfy me, and none can convince me that any other thing will be enough.

Stroll in Omega...pull up a seat or pew, as you wish. I have time for as much discussion as any can wish, and more than I can possibly bear. I know my tone in many posts is often light and bantering, but under that is where I truly live.

Welcome to the thread that won't die... Q

I will take one of each Strel, now that I know how much time I get in Purgatory, maybe I will even take 2 of some! My final total would be 64 x 10 ( because I know I will enjoy it) and another 10 just for the fun of it! Leaving me with 6400 minutes to spend there. Anyone want to join me, I AM going to need some company!

Just needed to get some of this 'energy' out. Please don't crucify me for this reply!

Omega - Padre, it's interesting that you chose the back end of the Alpha and Omega for your screen name.

asu - I figure that God has a sense of humor. He created US, did He not? My Schedule of Demerits is so tongue-in-cheek that it rendered me temporarily incapable of speech.

Q - It's not uncommon for evangelical preachers here in the Bible Belt to have no qualifications for the job except a Bible, a loud voice and a vocation. The better ones have years worth of walking-around sense, and that nearly always trumps a brand-new Seminary diploma. Or especially a Philosophy diploma.

Donna - Drive nails through those pretty feet? Never! Rake the soles with MY nails, maybe...heh heh heh...

Hey, I'm not an accountant yet! Just a lowly business student. Also, I plan on being much, MUCH worse than a mere IRS auditor... Assuming my plans for grad school work out, (I've still got a ways to go before my B.S. -an oddly appropriate term, might I add) I'm going to be a L.A.W.Y.E.R. some day. (It stands for: Lying Asshole from Whom You Expect Robbery 😀 ) (no offense to any real lawyers out there!)
