Well that's.....depressing.
I always have a habit of level farming for a little bit when I play RPGs, always trying to stay a head of the enemies and such a bit. I mean it's a good game and such but shouldn't leveling up make me stronger?
But I guess I'll just reset the game then I suppose, kinda kills the mood to play but hopefuly once I get back to my location it will pick up again.
Most RPG gamers are used to being able to grind out levels. However, as MisterDae mentioned, FFVIII (one of the reasons I didn't like it nearly as much as FFVII) also had enemies scale. But I believe it was just HP scaling - if it was stats, it wasn't nearly as much as it is here.
Sorry you have to reset the game, but hey - at least this gives you an excuse to do another class and see their class-specific tickle scenes. Unless of course you were playing a Mage. Then...sorry
🙁 you'll have to reroll the best class (of which I'm referring to female Mages. Males don't exist to me as that class. Red eyes, silver hair, hyper-ticklish feet? Perfection...:wub)
If it makes you feel any better, I had an Adventurer that I had gained level 13 with(and farther along than you are) before Deus revamped the class system and added the skill tree books, so I was forced to reroll since I couldn't acquire them (or continue the game sadly). It's ok though, since all classes gained the Surrender skill, which was one of the reasons I chose Adventurer in the first place.
-This brings up a good point as to why I don't agree with making games in increments/chapters and putting them out one by one. If you change/add anything like quests requiring new quests or new battle systems, you can completely mess up the progress players have made before then. It's just like LoL being switched over to Ace now - I'm forced to lose EVERYTHING I did in previous versions.
(This is more for people who were discussing chapters with me in my game thread)-
Not to be harsh, but I have little sympathy for the people who overlevel in ToG. Deus and others have announced repeatedly over these many pages that there is an optimal level for each chapter, and not to go beyond it. The healing items are in set units, not a percentage. The enemies don't need equipment or items: they level their stats correspondingly in a way the player cannot. Grinding is not the answer in this game. Caution and an abundance of potions is.
This is especially true given the 99 save states and the explicit advice at the beginning to use them. You should go back to a save state at lvl X. If you don't have a save state for every level you've been at, you're doing it wrong.
Well, to come to Yumes' defense, he DID mention that he didn't bother looking because he didn't want spoilers. Which I guess is a good point since we have everything only in this one thread (instead of an FAQ thread). Still, yea, if you're not using all those save points, you honestly have only yourself to blame. Still, it would've been nice to have gained some armor aside from chest pieces. It might've helped with situations like this.
I know it's off topic, but that Double D picture threw me into hysterics. XD
So long as you're quoting me - everything you post is on topic
😀 Looks like the pic completed its task successfully and made someone laugh!
A few thoughts on this:
- The game's character advancement and enemy scaling system are counter-intuitive. They punish typical RPG behavior, even though the game is an RPG.
- Dependency on external documentation is a design failure.
- The information isn't in the first post. Having to scour a thread, as homework, to make sense of a game is not fun.
- Gotchas suck, even beyond game design. "It's documented" is not an excuse. Listing the trade-offs underlying a design decision, however...
-Not ALL RPG's go with the leveling thing, but it is really harsh in this one. It's not a slap on the wrist like FFVIII, it's more of hitting you with a semi going 75 MPH.
-Not entirely. If that was the case, most games would be failures because guides are made; like how systems work (like crafting).
-This is something that ALL RPG makers here need to do, so I agree with what you say here. Important info should ALWAYS be in the first post since nobody bothers to read past that. Though, a lot of people don't even bother with the first post - they just grab the game and then bitch, despite how the fixes are right below it. Sadly, community members post answers instead of directing them to the first post and shaking their head at them in disgust; they cave in to this lazy attitude because they try to be helpful.
-can't really comment on this last one except nodding my head as nothing else really needs to be said.
