What Makes You Notice Another Member?

I'm attracted to people who write well. Those who do not, I tend to ignore, no matter what they're discussing.

this is a big one.

well i better keep working on my writing. I do my best to use all that ,.?!:;"' sometimes i write fast and forget that stuff and it is hard to read. later hugsssssss more reasons to write well

i notice people who post alot AND have something worthwhile to say. i only post when i have something worth my and your time to say.

another question i'd like to shoot out, What makes you notice when other members notice you alot?

i know this sounds stupid, but recently i've heard from people who say that they notice me alot and follow my postings. this is a surprise to me, since all this time i felt like a fly on the wall.

Generally, it's the topic. Then "what" they are communicating, as much as "how" well they are able to communicate. Like Crystal stated, it's really not all that different from face to face interaction. You get a vibe from a person's words, whether written or spoken.

I usually gravitate towards the individuals who seem witty, fun, playful, and do not take themselves too seriously.

Oh, and yes...nice boobs do help.

I want to get to know you. If you post a lot and get involved with every aspect of the forum and have fun, I gravitate toward anyone. We get to know one another through interaction. Get involved with being Involved.

I'm not drawn to users, I'm drawn to posts. If somebody consistently makes interesting threads, I notice him or her. If somebody consistently offers interesting, intelligent opinions, agree or disagree, I notice him or her. Also, I notice cute girls. So sig pics impact me to that extent but no other.

Now, it's way easier for me to notice somebody negatively...

If somebody consistently makes douchey-ass posts I notice him or her.

If somebody can't write properly, I write him or her off. I think it's outrageous to say ignoring people because of terrible grammar is shallow. This is a text-based forum. Reading and writing is 100% of my participation. Of course I'm going to skip over it if it's hard to read. I'm not going to strain my eyes and my brain. If you want to be read, then write readibly.

Little things usually. An interesting signature quote or picture. Location sometimes. If they respond to a post of mine. Nothing fancy 🙂

I share this opinion, although perhaps for different reasons. If I see someone with bad grammar and spelling, then the first thought that jumps to my mind is that the person in question has not bothered much with his or her post, and therefore it won't be worth reading. It's a pretty bad assumption to make I admit (especially for people who are not fluent in English), but one that I make a lot almost unconsciously.

As for everything else, standard fare for me really. Make intelligent posts, be relatively nice, don't be too serious, etc. User names do not tend to catch my eye much, but some of the signatures here do.

Bewbs are nice but not mandatory

If they have something important to say. Or if the topic interests me. Or if I am bored enough I will read to read.

1. What's the title? If it cathes my attention, I might read it. If the content within is something I can share a thought on, I might reply.

2. Who's posting it? If the title catches my eye but then I look at the poster, and it's someone I know can't type worth a hill of beans, I'll avoid it.

The n00bs. Like in real life, they still have the "idealism." Then after, they take residency to merge in a group, some find one or two acquaintances. Some can find their niche, then some get back to the lurker mode.

-o0o-

More or less I would believe those who are spoken of by others by reputation rather than those who self-brag.

-o0o-

I also notice those who contribute contents for the enjoyment of it.

Their behavior is what I notice. Someone actin' silly is someone who I then see as silly.

Someone serious is likewise seen thus.

Mean.

Kind.

Etc.

There's tens of thousands here. I've met a couple hundred. Interacted with a more, but online only. Such a tiny number in a mob this size.

I'm someone who pisses off "popular" kids, even. There's social circles where I'm outside looking in.

Yet, somehow, I've had several accuse me of being a "popular kid". I say "accuse" 'cause I've never been down wit' the notion of excludin' anyone who's cool t'me.

So it comes to that. I don't care if ya spell correctly (or habitually colloquialise posts so as t'sound like your speech pattern). I treat well those who treat others well and avoid offending me. Them's the ones I notice.

For me, grammar, spelling and proper punctuation is a pretty big issue. If someone writes a lengthy paragraph without at least decent punctuation and separation, I tend to skip over it. Additionally, people that swear just to swear is a turn-off. Furthermore, people that abbreviate simple words irks me. Those extra keystrokes aren't going to kill you.

I guess it's sort of like walking into a big party and figuring out where you fit in best. I tend to notice people who seem genuine, funny, have a point of view. I don't pay much mind to signatures (altho maybe i'll start)!

I find the people I'm closest to have been ppl that I'm closest to have introduced to me. I know it's kinda cheezy but reputation goes a long way both in forum and irl.

Those that stand out to me can have meaningful conversations even on a forum and become friends even across many miles.

🙂

I never notice any other members. I'm not gay, and very happy with my own Vaunting Enormity, thank you very much.

How they treat their friends or other people on the board mainly. Titles tend to catch my eye sometime and signatures. People who post things I can relate too, interesting topics.

Great thread Bella! I won't de-rail your thread but yours reminded me
of something very similar to this subject.

There's a lot of things that make me notice or want to get to know someone.

1. An interesting signature. This one might be shallow, but if you have nothing underneath your post and someone else has pics, videos, or quotes, my attention is going to be drawn more to the latter. It doesn't mean I won't read what the person without the signature has to say, but it may not stand out as much and is more likely to be sooner forgotten.

2. Sense of humor. I tend to gravitate towards people that have similar senses of humor as myself. The people that I have become especially close with are people that I can just hang around with on skype for hours sending ridiculous pictures and youtube links back and forth. We enjoy being ridiculous and making each other laugh.

3. Quality of character.

Your posts tell a lot about who you are. Some people I'm just not interested in getting to know, not because I'm in a clique and they are not, but because their posts may have led me to believe they are trollish, overly antagonistic, demeaning, or are a liar. There are a handful of people that I have never even personally spoken with but have seen so many distasteful posts from that I just block them rather than waste my time getting upset reading their posts. That's rare though.

However, if you are someone that is kind to to others, offers advise and experience, and knows how to have fun without it being at the expense of someone else, you are probably someone I will want to get to know.

4. How do you converse?

More often than not, when I read posts I look to see if they share similar viewpoints with me. Even if they don't, I like to see how they structure an argument, if its based on reason or emotion, and if they are deadset on being right even if they have to run over or offend others to do that. People that debate politely, intelligently, and evenhandedly are always interesting to me, regardless of the topic or their position.

5 Why are you here?

I also look for people that want to have fun and make friends. Those who make an effort to get to know folks, attend or host local events, or maybe just start a Q&A thread in the silly stuff forum are interesting to me.

I don't have as much time to goof around on the forum as I have in the past, so I may not be as known to a lot of the new people here. But I do still come on pretty daily and look around in a lot of threads. I definitely make note of people I want to get to know when I have a little more time.

Hostility: It's everywhere. 😵

-- I notice personality and the structure of their post. Is it a wall of text? If so, ARGGGGGGGGGGG, but I'll try to forge through it unless it's absolutely 'tarded. =)

But yeah; personality. Noticing a member on a forum is similar to IRL, minus the physical element.

I agree with this... and the wall of text can be brutal, lol!! However, I don't tend to judge people on their writing style alone. The Silly Stuff forum is a great place to have fun and make friends... made many friends there over the years. Though I haven't posted there in awhile... it can get too bloody addictive! Right Mils? 😀

Anyway, I notice those with personality, an open mind and a good sense of humour... not a big fan of drama.

*on the topic of signatures... not something that I have ever really looked for right away. Some folks include their picture in their sig, which is great and can certainly be eye catching. However, I've never been a big fan of the "enormous" sig variety, lol... in fact I find that very frustrating when I'm trying to catch up or read a topic and the majority of the page is taken up by someone's signature... lol. Just sayin' 🙂

Perhaps after reading this thread I'll consider updating mine, heh

i like this thread!!
i only started posting about 2 months ago and it wasnt to get noticed but to get to know other people who have at least one interest the same as me. to be honest it can be hard when you first start out but i dont think its because the tmf is cliqy-its just like all social thing in life it takes time and i think as long as you dont force yourself on people too much they will get to know you at their own pace.

you cant go un-noticed forever....can you???
