2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics

It's over Slovakia upsets Sweden 4-3

Don't fret Sweden fans...they get to face Canada next. 😛

Kill them good, Canada, and then win the gold! At least that way there will be a happy ending to this Olympics :-/

Canada won' win Gold, but I'm sure they'll beat Slovakia, but I thought Sweeden was supposed to win? lol

I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you back there in the Bronze Medal game against Slovakia. 😉

Sorry. Couldn't resist. :bwahaha:

And while I'm here, I feel for you Carsomyr, I really do. I whole-heartedly hope that it comes down to The Ottawa Senators and The Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup final this year so that either Daniel Alfredsson or the Sedin twins win the Stanley Cup.

For a Canadian city. 😉

On another topic, congratulations to Switzerland, Sweden and Canada, who have both Men's and Women's Curling teams in the Semi-finals today. I'm calling the following:

Women's:
Gold - China
Silver - Canada
Bronze - Sweden

Men's:
Gold - Canada
Silver - Switerland
Bronze - Norway

And best of luck the Canadian and American Women's hockey teams, who will slaughter each other over a Gold Medal later today. Canada will win 4 - 2, with the last goal being empty-net. :happyhop:

I was gonna say something along the lines of "No Washington?", but then I scrolled down and saw... the last part. XD

Like I said in the big wall of text on your VM wall, thanks, I appreciate it. Our team was here to win the whole thing and defend the title, but there's no point in getting all depressed that we failed.

We had a very "slow" team this year (as in: bad skaters), which limited our potential tactics quite a bit, but in 2014 we will be back with the likes of Hedman, Ekman-Larsson, Adam Larsson, Paajarvi, Tedenby (all fast as lightning) and Markstrom (Lundqvist part deux) on the roster, with currently young players like Backstrom, Hornqvist, Enstrom and Eriksson being 4 years closer to their prime and, dare I hope, a Lundqvist IN his prime! Franzen, Zetterberg, Kronwall and the Sedins will still be on the right side of 35, unlike our current veterans, and hopefully they will be longing for revenge! I will be sad to see the last guys of our old golden generation go (Lidstrom can never be replaced), but I suppose you just never know with Forsberg at least... 😉 🙂

Seriously, if we win in 4 years I'll probably dig this post up just so I can laugh at everyone abut how right I was! :jester: :neenerneener:

Cheers Carso! That was tough stuff last night... none of us were expecting that 🙁 And Snail's post says it all 😀

Obviously the Slovaks won't be push overs, but a Canada V USA final is inevitable now.... can't wait! :hysteriatrain:

Women's Hockey = GOLD FOR CANADA!!! Congrats to the women, you've done us proud!!!

Men's and Women's Curling, we are in on both!

Next up is Canada vs. Slovakia. Here's hoping on another win and another Gold medal attempt!

Whatever, Canadian... :neenerneener:

We'll make an example of Slovakia tonight, but your impending doom is written in stone! :mwahaha: 😀

Just like it was in the women's final no doubt... oh wait... the Canadian women won the hockey AGAIN!!!

So yeah, if Canada you play, final round you will lose. Do or do not, for you there is no hockey gold.

Joannie Rochette, in what had to be one of the most difficult performances of her life, has won the Bronze medal. I'm really happy for her > to lose someone so close to you leading up to your performances and to have the strength to continue on and persevere... good on Joannie Rochette! 😀

I couldn't agree with you more, Josh.

If ANYONE put more heart and soul into their performance to make it mean something, it was HER!!

That was an amazing, heart-warming performance to be sure 🙂

But I must say, I hope the judges didn't play the sympathy card... cause the USA girl after her did a wonderful free skate and was more deserving of the podium, IMO 🙁

Either way, she showed amazing courage and my heart goes out to her... regardless of where she placed, she captured our hearts 🙂 Bronze was definitely a wonderful bonus

CANADA'S WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM: THE BEST ON THE WORLD!!!

Yeah, nobody outside of Canada gives a shit about Women's Hockey though. 😉 Sorry, but the sport hands out more medals than it has competitive teams. Still, congrats to the one gold medal you were basically already guaranteed to win. :neenerneener:

For what it's worth though, I'll be cheering for Canada in Men's Hockey now that Sweden A is out. Sweden B still competes (I refuse to recognize the sovereignty of Finland 😀), but I don't think it's fair that we are the only country allowed to send two teams! 😛

Oh and Canada, we'll still get you! Women's curling. Book it. :jester:

Ahem. Men's Curling yesterday, Canada sends Sweden to the Bronze Age. And during the round robin:

Sweden was one of the 3 games Canada has won thus far by more than one point. At no point did I think the Women's Hockey Gold was a lock, but if there was a lock to be had at these Olympics, it might be this match.

Seriously Cars, you should stick to beard-growing and other things your country is good at. 😉

Meh, it's a minor upset that our men's team even made it to the medal rounds. I'll take a bronze there any day of the week! 😛

As for Women's Curling... so you're saying that if our women grow beards, they will be unstoppable? :woot2:

Hmm, bearded women playing curling; I wonder if that's a fetish... :idunno: *googles*

No idea how she was able to pull it together but she did. I couldn't think about anything when my mom died, let alone focus on an Olympic performance. My heart really went out to her.

Balls. :disgust:

Regardless, congrats to the Swedish Women's Curling Team on Gold and the Canadian Women for Silver! :woot:

And for our Men's Speed Skaters who picked up a Gold and Bronze tonight. We are now tied with Norway for third in medals and with Germany for most Golds.

Also, how about the US/Finland game? Congrats to the US, but anyone else shocked at Kiprusoff's general failure to show up?

CANADA WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO REDEEM THEMSELVES WITH A FINAL AGAINST USA!!!

I feel for her loss, and I am happy for her success. However I still think Frédéric Bilodeau should carry the flag for Canada during the closing ceremony. Maybe somebody will have rower Marnie McBean's balls and bring a big Canadian flag so everybody can hold a piece like she did at the Summer games one year.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot...

Bring On The Yanks!!!

no need to use inaccurate racial terms dude.

now we're really gonna kick your butt.

Wtf? Since when was "Yank" a RACIAL term? 😕

I don't think he meant it in a derogatory way either, but whatever...

Sorry, I just have to post this. Don't worry Finland, your loss the other day was brutal but we still love you! 😀

(In all seriousness, if any Finns actually read this I hope you've read enough of the thread to understand that we're just having a laugh with some light-hearted trash talk. I'll be cheering for you guys in the bronze medal game! 🙂)

Record Breaking Olympic medal count...

US sets medals record, Canada ties gold record

By JAIME ARON, AP Sports Writer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP)—While the Vancouver Olympics aren’t finished, the medal races are—and in spectacular fashion for North Americans.

The United States is guaranteed 37 medals and Canada will finish with at least 13 gold medals. Both are the best of these games and part of the greatest hauls ever at a Winter Olympics.

The Americans will leave with the most medals by any country at any Winter Games. They also will win the medal count for only the second time, the other being at Lake Placid in 1932...

...The Canadians have matched the record of 13 golds set by the Soviets in 1976 and Norway in 2002. It’s also the most gold Canada has won at any Olympics, winter or summer, and its the most for any Winter Olympics host country; both those marks had been 10.

<marquee>After tomorrow's hockey game, Canada will have <blink>14</blink> gold medals, thereby breaking the record. :canada:</marquee>
