Hello folks,

Just a heads up.

We are aware that a number of you are using the tag function to GR some forum members. This is an announcement to say Stop it. If it keeps up we are going to kill the function.

Tags are useful to link threads with common themes together. Such as all you could link the deaths of celebrities with the tag "celebrities RIP" or you could link all the music video threads with "music video".

I think, but I could be very wrong, it's a search key mebee? If you type a word into the search, threads with this tag come up. But hell, I'm more often wrong than right.

I don't understand either. I see some random post about some such nonsense and at the bottom is "Estelle Getty" as a tag. I know I'm old but I am nowhere near that old, what gives?????
XOXO

Tag Wars '09. Assumed way of getting away with things. Becomes fail. Don't want to lose tag feature. Must behave.

What is "GR," for those of us who suck at internet acronyms?

GR is Golden Rule violation. It's a direct public attack on another member. It's not smiled upon.

Correct on both counts. They are to act as a user-generated method of highlighting relevant content in a thread. In an optimal environment, they would serve to help users find related content without having to structure a search. You can see a nice representation of the Tags on the Tag Search page. An example of their use comes with, say, looking for media featuring Addie Juniper (to pick one in the cloud). Clicking her name in the cloud (or searching through tags for it) quickly gives you a list of threads relevant to her.

It's a useful feature if not abused. So don't abuse it; we really dislike having to turn things off because folks can't behave when given leeway.

I think the 'RickRolling' tags are completely overused.

And I wish I'd thought of them first, dammit.

Is there a way to set things so that only the thread starter can asign tags? That might help.

I know, I know...

I thought it was totally funny, until I saw it on every. single. thread :sowrong: Overkill people...overkill.

But that's the genius of it.

You think, "No one's lame enough to RickRoll anymore..." and then, you're proven wrong.

There's a perverse beauty to it.
