what it be?

I love the 56 and 57 T-Bird (and this year's re-issue is pretty cute too!)

XOXO

See, now I'm gonna sound like a copycat...

...but my first car I ever bought myself was a '66 Ford Thunderbird (and WILL own again someday!), so they've got a special place in my heart. And yeah, this year's look is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F***ing cool! So either one of those would be my first choice. But I have a list, LoL. Color me old-fashioned, but I just love older cars better than the egg-mobiles they're cranking out today. More personality, crappy gas milage notwithstanding.
Any of the Pontiac GTO series would tickle me to own, but my favorites are the 1971 Judge conversion and the LeMans Sport convertible. The older ones would be cool too, they always reminded me of the Batmobile, especially the '67.
Perhaps the obvious choice would also be a 1964 1/2 Mustang (Mustang afficionadoes will already know that the "1/2" reference will mean the convertible that came out halfway through the year, which was unprecedented, due to the wild popularity of the car when it came out).
The most venerable choice on my list would be a '59 Cadillac El Dorado, you know the one... the big bad mama with the fins on the back and the rocket-exhaust brake lights. Nothin' beats a slick black Cadillac (it's got solid gold hubcaps... it makes me feel like a king... I only need one thing.... whoops, sorry, must've been channelling Quiet Riot there for a second!)
The one I'm the most flexible about the year of the car on is Chevy's El Camino. Every year they made them, they were awesome, but I'm partial to the 69-70-71 chassis the most. There are mostly two schools of thought on these cars (and Ford's version, which actually came first, the Ranchero), which are, in a nutshell, the people who say, "It's not a car, it's not a truck! It can't make up it's mind! Who would want that?", and the people who say, "It's a car AND a truck! How freakin' cool is that! I get both!". LoL And in later years (and I'd kill to have one of these), they introduced a LUXURY version that I think was called the Conquistador. I rode in one once, and thought to myself, "I could get used to this".
Back in the early 1980's Pontiac struck a nerve with me again with the "Fiero". It reminds me of the old Hotwheel car from my childhood, the highly prized "Jackrabbit Special". It's what I usually refer to as a "microtinydeathmachine"... small car with a huge engine (they came with an option for a V-8, LoL). Your basic good ol' American rocket sled.
I give honorable mention to the Plymouth Barracuda, which, yes I know, is practically a GTO by another manufacturer, but the joy for me is in the subtle differences, besides the fact that there were many more versions to pick from. I lean towards the fastback, personally. Normally I prefer a rag-top, but on the 'Cuda you had that distinctive wrap-around back window, and you'd lose that with the convertible. Plus, I needed a seventh car to round out my entire "have a different car to drive every day of the week after I win the lottery" plan. 🙄

Sorry you asked? LoL! 😛

OMG

LOL!
(like just cars a little, Buddy Boy?)

XOXO

If I could have any car I wanted...

it would be one that was completely paid off, with great gas mileage, and little to no maintenance problems. :manicd:

In all seriousness, I think it would be awesome to own a DeLorean. A buddy of mine has one at work, and I fell in love with the thing. I don't know if I could handle all the 88 mph comments, though.

If I could have any car I wanted hummmmmm?

I guess it would have to be a '65 Red Mustang convertable, with white interior ,PB/PS, AM/FM, Tape deck,C.D. player, front and aft speakers. Is that specific enough?

Drive like hell, You'll get there

gotta love a guy who knows what he wants...😀

Um...by the way, steph. Is there any car that will get you to take YOUR shoes off?

I was gonna say one of those big ol' Pink Cadillacs, but that's so damn cliche'. Actually, take the Pink Cadillac, spray paint it black,
punch Bruce Springsteen in the face for good measures, and throw Bernadette Peters in the front seat. After all, (to quote an earlier post), any car that gets Bernadette Peters to take off her shoes and show off her bare feet can't be all bad.😀

Knoxxie's making this into a tenner...

1) DUESENBERG MODEL "J"
Only a few hundred were built of this super-ultimate. When sales occur, they happen very quietly among a network of enthusiasts, for a million plus. Incredible car.

2) PACKARD CLIPPER 1941
in maroon. The Darrin styling was inimitable.

3) BENTLEY 'R' CONTINENTAL 1952-1955
Preferably with the Mulliner coachwork. Only 211 were built, all with the fastback roof. I've only seen one in my lifetime, and they present a striking pose.

4) TUCKER
of course! Serial number 1043 just sold recently, for $350,000 and change, it came in a light blue. 48 of the 51 built still exist. I saw the one Gast's in Lancaster had (since sold). The color was 'Waltz Blue', the color of Preston Tucker's wife's wedding dress. Pictures do not do the Tucker justice, the car has to be seen in the fle- uh, sheet metal 🙂

5) LINCOLN CONTINENTAL CABRIOLET 1941
...in black, with off white top. The car is visually stunning, as beautiful as any car ever made in America. The sidevalve V-12 was somewhat less stunning, though, but like I said, it was the looks.

6) CHEVROLET CORVETTE STING RAY 1963
...in silver, with red leather upholstery. This was the elusive 'split window' version. To me, the most wonderful Corvette of all.

7) JAGUAR XK 120 ROADSTER
Pure sporting fun, in a timeless classic. Most of them came here, with left hand drive, but actually finding one for sale's another story.

8) MERCEDES-BENZ HIGHLINE COUPE/CABRIOLET 1961-1971
It never mattered what engine was under the hood. The car was a sheet metal symphony from end to end. It had a beauty and class that subsequent Mercedes coupes never reached.

9) BMW 3.0 CSL 1971
As beautiful and grand in its own way as the previous; far sportier, however. It looks great in red...and most come with the floor mounted four speed.

10) FORD GT40
They're making them again...

Damn, Drew...I've had a

CRUSH

on Bernadette Peters for almost thirty years. That would be a splendid car trip indeed.

Ah ha! I KNEW I wasn't the only one!

Me, steph, Sally, and Bernadette in the back of a limosine! Talk about "Four on the floor"!

Yes, yes, all very nice. But do any of them have a fucking GRAPPLING HOOK???? I don't think so!!! :cool2:

Ooohhh, tricky question... so many to choose from (Aston Martain Vanquish and Vantage, TVR Cerbraa, Jaguar XJ220 etc etc etc)but:

Daily Drive: Current BMW M5 with an option to trade up to the new one when it breaks cover this year (M-tech 5 litre V10 apparently 'based on' the BMW Formula 1 engine, drooolllll)

Weekend Toy: Honda NSX Type R

Stupidly Silly Weekend Toy: MCC Smart with a NOS-Equipped, turbocharge Suzuki Hayabusa engine in the back, a SERIOUS suspension upgrade and optional ballast bricks in the nose. Oh, and an ejector seat please.

But, if I wasn't paying for either maintenance or fuel there really can be only one choice, the McLaren F1. I've seen a grand total of one of these things on the open road (racing a *hawk**spit* Ferrari F50 as it happened) and just... put it this way, I used to think that blurred light efect you see on Star Trek when ships go to warp was just a special effect... Wrong. Even though there's a couple of things (the new Bugati for one) coming out that'll probably take its speed record I don't think we'll ever see such a perfectly enginered car again.

<giggles>

YOU are such a wild man honey--LOVE it! :redheart:

And I was watching one of those live car auctions on cable the other day and someone was auctioning off a Duesenberg--it was very exciting watching all the action--that is a BEAUTY!

XOXO

It would be a 57 hardtop convertible,silver and grey,with Elisha Cuthbert in the passenger seat.🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

An old Willys Jeep Hell any Jeep would be fine as long as it wasn't made by Damlier-Chrysler

This is such a cool topic!!

I started a thread with a similar subject about ten pages back. Reason why is that I just recently purchased a pick up which is one car I wanted to own for years. Reason why is because it serves so many purposes. Great for hauling things and very handy. There are a few other cars which more than tickle my fancy

Danimal, you are boss. The 1964 1/2 stang. Got to be candy apple red with a white top and a 289 under the hood. Awesome choice. Esta mi primerio selection

Another car which I wouod love to own is the Trans Am in "Smokey in the Bandit". The exact replica color and all.

Another choice would be a 1972 Nova with a 350, Good Year tires, 60's in the back and 70's in the front all with Crager S/S rims. Preferable color-Metallic Grey.

A metallic blue 1972 Chevelle with a 424.

To top out my one different car to drive to work, I wouldn't mind a 1957 Thunderbird.

The truck is for the weekend chores and I wouldn't mind a motorcycle for weekend joyrides.

Basically, I love the muscle cars that were made in the 60's and 70's. they had character. The Pontiac GTO's, Chargers, Challengers, Nova's, Camaro's and Cudas. Once the 80's rolled around, the charger GTO and Nove were discontinued and the Camaro, Firebirds, Trans Ams, Corvettes all began to look the same. Come On!! That annoyed me. And the Fiero, come on, you have to be 5'6" or under to fit in that car. You gotta be kidding me!!

LOL

Glad you like it GF (I actually PM'd your wife a few days back)...
No one believes me when I tell them this story but the guy who built the purple 1970 LS split bumper Camaro that Nick Nolte flipped off the bridge in "Gumball Rally" married my best friend. (Yes, he has pictures as proof, ya naysayers!) LOL

He restored their twin turbo Mazzerati (he picked it up for 7K--it was a MESS!! I love it but guess it's perceived as a "girlie car") and now their Lotus has been undergoing facelift for years...

XOXO
