Knoxxie's making this into a tenner...
1) DUESENBERG MODEL "J"
Only a few hundred were built of this super-ultimate. When sales occur, they happen very quietly among a network of enthusiasts, for a million plus. Incredible car.
2) PACKARD CLIPPER 1941
in maroon. The Darrin styling was inimitable.
3) BENTLEY 'R' CONTINENTAL 1952-1955
Preferably with the Mulliner coachwork. Only 211 were built, all with the fastback roof. I've only seen one in my lifetime, and they present a striking pose.
4) TUCKER
of course! Serial number 1043 just sold recently, for $350,000 and change, it came in a light blue. 48 of the 51 built still exist. I saw the one Gast's in Lancaster had (since sold). The color was 'Waltz Blue', the color of Preston Tucker's wife's wedding dress. Pictures do not do the Tucker justice, the car has to be seen in the fle- uh, sheet metal 🙂
5) LINCOLN CONTINENTAL CABRIOLET 1941
...in black, with off white top. The car is visually stunning, as beautiful as any car ever made in America. The sidevalve V-12 was somewhat less stunning, though, but like I said, it was the looks.
6) CHEVROLET CORVETTE STING RAY 1963
...in silver, with red leather upholstery. This was the elusive 'split window' version. To me, the most wonderful Corvette of all.
7) JAGUAR XK 120 ROADSTER
Pure sporting fun, in a timeless classic. Most of them came here, with left hand drive, but actually finding one for sale's another story.
8) MERCEDES-BENZ HIGHLINE COUPE/CABRIOLET 1961-1971
It never mattered what engine was under the hood. The car was a sheet metal symphony from end to end. It had a beauty and class that subsequent Mercedes coupes never reached.
9) BMW 3.0 CSL 1971
As beautiful and grand in its own way as the previous; far sportier, however. It looks great in red...and most come with the floor mounted four speed.
10) FORD GT40
They're making them again...
