I found it funny how some dude in my work came up to me randomly and handed me this booklet on the may 21st stuff. He told me we were all going to die and get judged...and its guaranteed to happen! I couldnt help but laugh and not take this guy seriously. I believe their were like 5 of them in my store going around handing these things out. I also saw people protesting on streets and sidewalks about it too lol. 2012...may 21st...whats the deal with it? Does anyone believe in this stuff or is it another one of those y2k things?

As for the 2012 thing, I am rather confident in saying that the Mayans may have been brilliant, but does no one believe that it's like a calender? Is someone from the future going to find a calender for 2000, see that it ends, and decide, "The world ended once!" People baffle me sometimes, honestly.
As for the May 21st thing... I haven't heard anything about that, but I also don't really care to bother with these things. If the world ends, it ends. I have more important things to think about for when the world doesn't end and we're here May 22nd.

Anyone who honestly believes the world is ending, whether they think it will be this month or next December, is a fool. Plain and simple.

According to Arnold Schwarzeneggar, the world ends on August 29, 1997 when SkyNet goes online.

If Arnold is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I had to look this up(bored at work).

It just looks like the eschatologists need more grant money from the church.

Depends on how you define "the world". Sure, Earth is not going to end. The human race, that's another deal. Eventually the world is going to shake us off like a bad case of fleas, just like it did with the dinosaurs.

May 21? Yeah. I want to be around these guys on May 22. As for 2012, my cousin had the definitive word on that. He says he knows the world won't end next year, because a much higher authority than the ancient Mayans says he'll be paying child support for the next six years.

When you see people flying up in the air and spot your first zombie, don't say you weren't warned....

lol

lol

Are you saying the Umbrella Corporation(Resident Evil), is behind all these shenanigans, Ray...

If the Mayans were so prescient, how come they didn't see the Spanish coming?

Checkmate.

Sure, some people believe. But yeah, that's Harold Camping. He predicted this before, but was wrong, then decided he'd only done the math wrong. Now he's sure he's got it. That's gonna be a awesome weekend -- first The Rapture, then the MMRBQ/concert festival!!! WOOT!

This one comes from a numerological study of the Bible, and using 'hidden' messages to extrapolate Judgement day.

This has been done several times, and most recently, if I remember right, in '98, when it didn't happen they said they made a error in computation. And went back to it.

The sad thing is that a lot of these folks have sold off their homes, quit jobs and such because "Hey, who needs that shit when the world ends in a week?" There was a local news story about how a family blew their savings, their kids college funds, and are waiting to be 'taken up' now. I have no issues with these folks ruining their own lives with this stuff, but putting your kids in a horrid position for their futures annoys.

Mark me, the day after it doesn't happen they will find a math error, or a missing hidden code that says its going to end in 2018 or such. And they will reboot and start again.

Diana, I've never believed in that sort of thing. I have always chalked it off as all bullshit.

Eventually, as most of us know, the world will likely end. From what I've read, scientifically, the real end of the world will happen, when the sun burns out, and all life on the planet dies. Supposedly, if modern science is correct, we are halfway through the life cycle of the earth, which is about 5 billion years old, so, at that rate, the REAL end of the earth wont happen for another 5 billion years. None of the members of this forum, nor anyone we know, a few generations behind, or ahead, will be alive anymore at that time, so it wont be our worry.

That, I believe, is real. The other thing, pure speculation, and not anything worth giving any creedance to.

Right, but the topic at hand isn't a legitimate extinction event, but an apocalypse dreamed up by lunatics.

I find it amusing at best. This is the sixth serious end of the world routine I have faced in my lifetime. 😀

I study theology as a hobby. In the bible, Jrsus says this: "No one will know of my second coming but my father in heaven." There must be a lot of Gods running around out there. :rowfull:

I've seen prophecies like this come and go, but this one is getting more attention than others, and I'm not sure why.
