They Blew up Vulcan, Pike is to old, Kirk is to young, JJ Abrams is a loser, and needs to be punched in the face.
I am glad you liked it though

When Child Services finally took you away from whoever made you like this, didn't they set up counseling or a Dr. Phil session or something?
It's a reboot of the story and it was awesomesauce with fries in a theater thank you...![]()
A great Sci-Fi movie it maybe, but a great Trek flick is something else. The was no need to reboot it, if it ain't broke don't fix it. You watch way to much Oprah if you think a hack like Dr. Phil could ever fix me. All Abram had to do was actually watch a few episodes of the show, and come up with a story. Nick Myer did just that, and Star Trek II is still the greatest of them all. I think you may have been overwhelmed by the special effects (that were no doubt impressive) but I am a hardcore trek geek and J.J. sucks ass.
(unnessecary spoiler), Pike is to old, Kirk is to young, JJ Abrams is a loser, and needs to be punched in the face.

I admit, i'll probably go see this movie, but i still have my reservations about Syler playing Spock. It just seems too polar opposite for me.

Yeah, the movie is considered both a reboot and a prequel, so your point of Kirk being too young is off.
Korastus said:The movie actually does an excellent job of addressing the rest of the canon, rather than ignoring it, as well as compensating for differences within the overall storyline brought about by said reboot. JJ Abrams did an excellent job with the film, and the cast was absolutely fantastic, all around. One of the best films I've seen all year. 😀
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, I had the same reservations but he blew me away![]()
Trek as a franchise was a burt out hulk on the side of the road. Used up, stripped and mined. Cobwebs lived on the rusted frame.
The last series died to bad ratings. The 1st cast too old to carry a new film, and policy had restricted the writers from developing all new characters to cary on for them as they aged out.
There was no place to go, and no way to make new coin from the series. Bad management of the franchise had killed it.
So we got a reboot. One that seems to have pleased the masses, and now given the franchise a new life. It's how things work.
Some folks will hold that nothing is ever as good as the original and how it's crap because it's different. And they will hold this view just BECAUSE it's different and it offends their memories of something they love.
A valid view but a short one. Trek is a cash machine. The bank just pulled up and refilled it. Deal. It's how hollywood works.
And to the poster who spoiled some major plot points in post #2 thanks. Nice work. You could have made your point without dong that. Some of hoped to see the film without pre-knowledge.

Trek 2 also changed Trek into a more naval\war styled genre. Gene Roddenberry had a completely different vision to which the studios removed him. Hell look at TNG before and after he died and you can see how they made things militaristic for the masses
Star Wars could be reinvented?
I thought about Earth becoming the setting for a fugitive Jedi who has to fend off Vader's agents. His Jedi Starfighter is stored in Hangar 18 at Area 51. The men in black are actually sith agents who warn people not to report the probe droids seen in California, Texas and New York.
The Jedi stud would be a Corellian who falls in love with a beautiful FBI agent who gets captured by the MIB's who is first warned by them about the Probot, then she gets nosy. Later the apprentice of Vader eventually locks into an epic lightsaber battle with the Corellian, and finding a force-strong girl that becomes his Padawan.
The Jedi cannot return to his old galaxy, because his hyperdrive is damaged. He constantly bitches about the "primitive technology" and his love for the FBI babe is a risk of falling to the dark side of the force, because of his fear of losing her.
Corellian Jedi are somewhat rebellious. They wear green cloaks, often marry, and rarely leave their system. This one Jedi, however, had a close relationship with Yoda and because of a brilliant military mind, served in the Clone Wars as a general of a powerful clonetrooper force on Hoth. He taught some moves to a young Anakin Skywalker, and was a good friend of Obi-Wan and Mace Windu. His vice is women.
It's worth a try, though some Star Wars geeks are against bringing Earth into the canon.
They blew up Vulcan for fuck sake!!!!!

Ah ha! But you don't have to blow up an importan planet for it to work, nor does it really mess up current continuity... episodes 1-3 already did that lOl.
