partial birth abortions

"It's easier to shake a finger than to extend a hand."

Button, that was pretty much exactly my point in making the statement about adopting a kid. It was half suggestion, and half sarcasm. My point really was that for all the people opposed to abortion, I really wonder how many would actually be willing to help. I realize that quoting Ralph Nader won't win me any favor on this forum, but he did make a good point when asked about his position on abortion during the 2000 presidential campaign, "I don't think we should make it illegal, we should make it unnecessary."

Shining Ice, I think the debate over partial birth abortions has to do with the fact that "normal" abortions are performed early on in the pregnancy when the fetus bears no resemblence to an actual human, as jez has so eloquently demonstrated. People are screaming about the partial birth procedure occuring in the third trimester of pregnancy, when the fetus is developed and theoretically could live on its own outside the womb. Since no one can come up with an instance where this procedure was used to end an unwanted pregnancy, I think it is safe to conclude that this really isn't an issue. Instead, this entire thread has turned to the debate of abortion in general. From what I understand, the patial birth procedure is only used under circumstances where the baby or the mother are not likely to survive anyways.

oddjob it happens more than twice a year!

sushi, i will gladly get in line to adopt a couple of babies that are up for adoption rather than being aborted. i don't think you'll be at a loss for volunteers.

can't name an instance? what you want names?!?! that would be illegal! but i will tell you of such a case. i was working on the ortho unit at west suburban hospital in oak park. they had a policy of putting recovering aborters on floors other than obstetrics.
one such woman was under my care. i was also shift/floor manager.
in talking with her she told me she had the partial birth abortion done to spite her soon to be ex. husband. the bitch murdered her child, just for spite! she was 3 weeks shy of her due date. i told her what i thought, and walked out. i called the house supervisor, and told her of the situation, and had her transfored to another unit, as none of the other r.n.'s on my floor would care for her.

so saddly yes it is done for reasons other than medicaly needed for the mother. it fact it is rarely done for that reason.

No names, just an example, which you provided. So it is an issue. I honestly don't know how often it is performed or for what reason, and was basing my comments on the general consensus of the thread. I said before that I don't support the use of this procedure in cases of unwanted pregnancy, but don't think it can be made illegal because the potential for medical necessity exists.

sigh again with you? i thought i was done on this topic

OK, so it's more like ten times a year out of 6 billion people on the planet. It's not siamese-twins-separation rare, but it's not appendectomy common either. I'm still okay with it.

10 times? man have they got you fooled.
how many will it take before it's not ok with you oddjob?
or do you not care at all?
it will never be ok for me, and i'm glad this bill was passed with bi-partisan support in congress/senate! now if we could just get the liberal bastard judges out of it!

If only several hundred republican politicians created mass suicide........wishful thinking wont solve this issue Steve. 🙄

believe it or not ,i wish this thread would go away.
oddjob, i think your attitude would change if you saw it happen, or once you become a father, and hold your own baby for the first time.

see ice, that's the difference between us. i just want the judges out of the business of law making, and you want mass murder. gee for someone so against capital punishment you are pretty blood thrirsty!
can we say hypocrit?!?! yes i do mean you shinning ice.

knox, why thank heaven? do you really relish the idea of full term babies being murdered? i give you much more credit than that. think about your true feelings, ignore the diatribe of the libers, and decide is this how you want your country to act, is this the moral, ethical, and legal way you want our country to behave?

Arguring about abortion is a fool's game. People have different views on when life begins. Is it conception or is it at birth or is it somewhere inbetween? No matter what the choice is people are pretty rigid in their stance. Personally I do not like abortion, but I do not think life begins until birth. To make a generalization, I think the group that have abortions are young girls who engaged in consensual sex but are not mature enough to deal with the consequences. They are afraid of their family finding out. These woman are scared and desperate, and they are probably going to have an abortion if it is illegal or not by a clinic or a coathanger. Safely or Unsafely. That is why I'm Pro-choice.

With that said, I would like to touch on what someone said earlier by making abortion unnecessary. The birth control we have today is top notch. So I think we can avoid abortions if we talk to our children about sex and make sure they have access to birth control. This is stop our denial that our kids our not having sex. Because they are. I had sex at age 15, and I wasn't the first in my class to loose my virginity. Not even close. This was over ten years ago. So I think all you moms and dads out there need to get your little girls on birth control as soon as they start menustrating. Maybe even earlier. I know little Suzy may seem innocent too you, but little Suzy maybe banging little Johnny from across the street.

If I didn't think the privilege would be abused, I would say we should put birth control in the water. You would have to apply to get counteractent to actually have a kid.

Lol I'm not the one who took an anti-death penalty stance. You've got your liberals confused there Stevo. And YOU wrote the book on hyppocrisy. 🙂

Little Suzy AND Little Johnny need to be using condoms, no matter who with or how often they're having sex.

Button

p.s. I was astonished to hear recently that some guys STILL actually believe "pulling out" when they are about to have an orgasm is a viable form of birth control.

No Steve. Thank God for Liberal Bastard Judges, Steve. They're a check against the mindless, bigoted right wing maniacs who proliferate when you're not careful.

Yes condoms in conjuction with the birth control pill. The birth control pill is more effective form of contraception, but condoms are more effective in preventing sexual disease.

Yeah, isn't that scary. "pulling out" is not I repeat not an effective form of birth control.
